When did they start to cover test pitches?
With such huge money in cricket these days (the gate, TV rights and advertising etc) it's understandable to maximise playing time in a game which cannot be played in inclement weather, but has the game really lost something?

Not sure when they started covering wickets but I read an interesting cricket book a few years back that highlighted just how difficult it was for batsman 30 years ago.
You would have to think that Bradmans average would have been vastly superior if he had the chance to play on the better tracks that are produced now. Same with Sobers.

Reckon the Banga's and Zimbo's might have had to chase a few as well.
One for the batsmen back then, though, when did the LBW law come in? Before Bradman, certainly.
