Most combined Shield and Pura Cup victories and home of Victor Trumper, Don Bradman, Bill O'Reilly, Keith Miller (after he woke up to himself), Richie Benaud, Alan Border and Kerry O'Keefe.
We are the best state team. Ever.

Hard to argue with but the Queenslanders are really setting the standard now.

Wow. Despite having 5 times the population of WA, you still have to poach players (McGill, Katich out of the current side alone).
What a joke.

On the other hand Gilly couldn't get a game for them. Who was he stuck behind?

Is there any truth in David Hookes's suggestion that when you get selected for NSW you are given a brown paper bag with a baggy green cap in it?
Might have to change it to something like this.

Yes. That fell under the 'brilliant ability to assess talent by NSW selectors'. Remember him making 175 against SA in the Shield final within 6 months of leaving?
Basically, if NSW were not the most successful state it would be almost farcical - they have the population of WA, SA, Queensland and Tassie combined, with room left over for another WA! The fact that they ever miss out on the shield final is a disgrace. And dont get me started on how they ever manage to conspire to lose the State of Origin (League) or the woeful performances of the Warratah's. By far the least impressive sporting state in Australia.

I go for the Brumbies, the Waratahs are a team of big girl's blouses - always have been.

The real strength of NSW cricket is the standard of the regional competitions. Canberra, Woolongong and Newcastle all have large cricket communities.

The main problem Victoria has is that most of the elite sporting talent chooses AFL. The two codes compete with each other for similar body sizes (especially batsmen) and that costs them alot of quality talent. In NSW and Queensland that is not quite the case.

Good call. Rugby players are too stupid to play cricket so the two sports don't really compete.
