Harry Kewell came on as a substitute last night against Brett Emertons Blackburn. Did really well and helped swing the momentum of the game towards Liverpool. Looked very fit and sharp considering how much football he has missed. Couple of nice turns and created a couple of shots on goal with his passing.

Scotty McDonald scored twice for Celtic last night as well.

Good news about Kewell, but how about McDonald?
Comes over from Motherwell, he's scored 10 goals in 12 games, including two hat-tricks and he scored the winner in a Champion's League match against AC Milan. I don't think he would have imagined that in his wildest dreams. Surely he needs to be given a starting run for the Socceroos in November. He's not a fashionable sort of player but that's just unbelievable scoring form.

Guys you probably know I'm not a keen soccer follower but I have to say Kewells reputation even before the injuries was never warranted.

He also seems to be very full of himself as well now.

Disagree a little. Prior to a run of numerous injuries/problems, Kewell was the best left sided midfielder in the Premier League. Left footed attacking midfielders are rare and he would have walked into the England team.
He is a shadow of his former self but possibly still has the ego to match his good days.

He ain't no rocket scientist either. He may not realise he's still not one of the better players going around. Well not until his time runs at out Anfield soon and he ends up at Reading or somewhere a little less glamorous (Wolves could use some quality and have money to spend;) )

Have to agree. Back at Leeds some 6 or 7 years ago he was superb. Came 2nd to Roy Keane in Premier League player of the year title. Two years back he had a great 2nd half of the year and helped turn around Liverpool's season. Rafa has a high opinion of Harry because of this and has been very patient with him.

I am a big fan of Kewell - hes had a terrible run with injuries but is obviously still held in high regard at Liverpool. He's always had an ability to take on defenders and create chances out of nothing.

He perhaps was overrated but I dont think thats his fault.

Great news for Scotty McDonald - the Socceroos desperately need some more options up front (much like the Dogs!)

Is McDonald out of favour with the Australian team? I heard something on SEN I think that indicated that his performances now must get selectors talking. It seemed like he had been overlooked and undervalued by the selectors.

He's been named in the squad to play Nigeria

Before this season he was at Motherwell who are a cellar dweller in the Scottish league. Was seen to be behind Viduka, Aloisi, Kennedy and Thompson and was rarely picked in the squads. A couple of times when he got picked he either didn't show or played a 5 minute cameo. Will be interesting to see him work with Kennedy against Nigeria. Sort of player who could feed off a big guy like Kennedy giving him knock downs etc.

I would love to see that partnership tried at international level as well as Kennedy and Thompson. Kennedy will become an important player for us.

Even if Motherwell haven't been a powerhouse they are playing in a reasonable league and I would have thought McDonald would have had more exposure for the socceroos than he has to date.

Is Kennedy not the Cameron Wight type of the Socceroos? A great white hope?
Big, rangy athlete who has struggled with injuries but shown promise in limited cameos. Incidentally his wife is a pretty good basketballer

He has been cruelled by injury to date, however he does have enormous talent, to go with his size. IMO he turned the game against the Japanese in the 06 WC, just his height worries defenders, and if he has intelligent players at his feet, he will create alot of chances.
