Ian Meckiff - chucker or ripped off?

Seems odd he played for a while, then nailed by the umps. Some talk of a conspiracy...

Slightly off the topic but didn't Benaud refuse to bowl Meckiff after he was called?
My understanding is that Meckiff was called for throwing on the 2nd last test of the series and Benaud stopped bowling him. For the next test the ACB wanted to play him again and Benaud said that he wouldn't bowl him if he was selected.
The ACB eventually wilted to Benaud's resolve not to bowl him and ironically or otherwise it was the last test match that Benaud ever captained for Australia.
Benaud never comments on it but I think that is what happened.

I don't know if Meckiff was a chucker or not but the game had a lot more tradition and integrity then.
