Surprised to see no thread up already.
WHAT A GREAT 1ST HALF!
Sydney started off really slow and looked second rate to the Galaxy. But to their credit they fought hard and came away with 3 at the half.
THEN, the man who everyone came to see, Becks gets a free at the 45th minute and does what Becks does.
3-1 and the half.
Thoughts of the match so far?

You think so? The first 40 minutes was riddled with both teams defences and midfields giving the ball away under little or no pressure. To me that is a travesty to the great game and poor soccer.
Its an exhibition game, one team in the middle of a season the other in pre-season.
Its over hyped because of 1 player who in honesty I beleive was never a elite midfielder of his generation. His image has always been above his performances. Tonight I found out Ruud Gullit was the Galaxy coach. Even though he was a better player than Becks, there was little or no mention of him.

Maybe so, Ernie, but if every game of soccer was played like that the game would be a whole lot more popular in this country.
For a game that I had no personal interest in, I enjoyed it a lot more than most AFL games that the Dogs aren't involved in.

To me it just like one those goal for goal AFL games (eg. Us vs North at telstra dome were we led by 40 and lost). Its so frustrating when you turn over the ball continually and thats what happened last night. Simple things under no pressure should be a given.
Defences were terrible. High scores doesn't nessarily mean high quality and entertaining soccer. I've seen better 0-0 than that last night. If people are just after high scores then watch basketball. I prefer both defensive and attacking styles of play.

I also enjoyed it,
I admittedly haven't seen many full games of the A League, and have seen more highlights on sports tonight or sbs, so I dont have that good a feel for what a regular A league game is like - it seems like its a fair step up from the old NSL though
So whilst the game was pretty wide open and there were lots of mistakes I still thought it was entertaining
Juninho provided a lot of class - I remember watching him in the premier league and thinking he was good - seems a really good choice of a class import who can teach the rest of the squad etc
Whilst Beckham may never have been at the level of Ruud Gullit, but really few players are good enough to win two European player of the year trophies Becks has still been a very good player for a pretty long time.
