DOGS MAKE RECORD PROFIT

November 29, 2007 12:00am

WESTERN Bulldogs made a record profit of more than half a million dollars in the 2007 season, the first in seven years.

The Dogs made $534,214 on record revenue of $25.8 million.

Chief executive Campbell Rose said the result proved the Bulldogs were now entrenched in the west of Melbourne.

"The Western Bulldogs are proving we are a club that is financially viable and with our Whitten Oval redevelopment, a club that is no longer in survival mode but now in building mode. We are now about creating success,'' he said.

"Our Whitten Oval redevelopment is something many people said would never happen. Now as we come to the end of 2007 we are about to enter the most exciting year ever.

"We are here to stay in the west of Melbourne and our members should be just as excited to bring in the New Year and the new era with us.''

The Bulldogs' Annual General Meeting will be held at Moonee Valley racecourse on December 17.

I have a bit more about this. Sorry if it is somewhat duplicated.

The Western Bulldogs today announced a record operating cash profit for the 2007 AFL season of $534,214. The last time the Club recorded a profit was in 2000 with a small profit of $24,582. In 2006, the Club recorded a loss of $260,555 and has achieved a $2.6M turnaround since the 2002 season.

Western Bulldogs Chief Executive Campbell Rose said the result highlighted the tremendous work everyone at the Club was doing and proved the Western Bulldogs were now entrenched in the west of Melbourne.

“For the Club to record its highest ever profit in history is a tremendous result for all involved and testament to the support we receive from our members, sponsors and partners. The Western Bulldogs are proving that we are a club that is financially viable and with our Whitten Oval redevelopment, a club that is no longer in survival mode but now in building mode – we are now about creating success.

We are one club with one vision with one team with one mission with one goal with one community - the western region of Melbourne - proudly representing the red, white and blue. ” Rose said.

After including all monies for the Whitten Oval redevelopment the Club has recorded a net profit of $6.3M in 2007.

The $26M redevelopment will celebrate its opening in March 2008 when the public will get the opportunity to view the new $10M Elite Learning Centre. The players’ facility is almost four times the size of the previous football department and will house a 30-metre running track, player gym and laboratories that will accommodate sports scientists from Victoria University along with state-of-the-art plunge pools switching between hot and icy-cold water and a machine built into the floor to project the latest audio-visual software to test the players’ decision making in simulated game play.

“Our Whitten Oval redevelopment is something many people said would never happen. Now as we come to the end of 2007 we are about to enter the most exciting year ever for the Western Bulldogs Football Club. We are here to stay in the west of Melbourne and our members should be just as excited to bring in the New Year and the new era with us. The Whitten Oval redevelopment is a vision turning into reality, and it is happening before our eyes,” Rose said.

Rose encouraged interested parties to come down for a look and see for themselves.

The Western Bulldogs Football Club’s revenue rose to a record level of $25.8M which is a $7M increase since 2002 - equating to a 38% increase.

“We continue to increase our expenditure in the football department increasing the number in our coaching team paying 100% of the salary cap, improving our facilities to make them the best in the competition and developing our entire football program. Our focus is on winning premierships and to that end, we will do what we need to do to achieve that ultimate goal,” Rose said.

"It is a far cry from when we commenced this journey at the end of 2002 where the cupboard was bare. We struggled to make 92.5% (minimum) salary cap payments for the following two seasons, and had the lowest football expenditure in the competition.

All of these indicators are heading one way and that is up. It is onwards and upwards for this Club - which is clearly sharpening its focus in the ensuing years of breaking the longest premiership drought in the AFL" said Rose.

Equally, with the Club's sharp focus on on-field performance in 2008 and beyond, it also remains committed to being the community club of the AFL with this year launching the commencement of construction of a 105-place childcare centre at Whitten Oval - another first.

Rose said "we are the only AFL club and in fact, we believe the only sporting club in this country that is building a community based asset of this nature for and on behalf of the community, meeting community needs through the medium of sport, and that being through the brand of the red, white and blue - the brand of the western region of Melbourne."

The Club's reserved seat selling period closes tomorrow, 30 November. I encourage all members to get on board and to continue this exciting journey with us. We are poised for success. It will take time but for those who are patient, it will be very, very sweet". Rose said.

“I would like to thank our major sponsor LeasePlan along with premier partners Worksafe Victoria and Ezybonds and all our other corporate partners. We are proud to have an extensive list of sponsors and partners who believe in the Club and are willing to support us in what is a very bright future for the Western Bulldogs.”

The worst part about this is I'm unter the impression that it should have been a lot more.
