This would bearly register on the radar of most on here, but the Australian Rugby Union's latest attempt at a Nationwide Competition, the Australian Rugby Championship, has gone under after only 1 season.
ARC scrapped after $4.7m loss (http://http://www.foxsports.com.au/story/0,8659,22942541-23217,00.html)
I'm interested in the thoughts of Rugby fans to this news, particularly DR.
IMO while Rugby needs to gain more of a foothold in Perth and Melbourne I didn't think this comp would last. Having said that I'm still pretty disappointed, particularly after the season the Melbourne Rebels had. They were expected to simply make up the numbers and ended up making the Grand Final.
I'm also disappointed in that this will put a major dent in player development, and the development of the code in Victoria and Western Australia. I love Rugby and only work commitments stopped me from attending Melbourne Rebels matches this year. I can only hope that a new format is decided upon and implemented quickly for the sake of the development of Rugby in Australia.
