I was watching the Patriots strut their stuff today with a thrilling come from behind win which gave them an unprecedented 16 game winning season. Ironically the well performed Australian Cricket team goes into the next test looking to make it 16 wins on the trot.

It's very hard to stack up teams from different sports against each other but these two teams are clearly a cut about their rivals at the moment.
Out of curiosity would anyone like to compare the dominance of the two teams at the moment?

This is a press release after todays game.

Finally, it's in the books. The New England Patriots are the first team in NFL history to win 16 regular season games with a 38-35, much tougher than expected win over the New York Giants.
The New England Patriots finished the 2007 NFL regular season doing everything a team could possibly do. They won blowouts and close ones, come-from-behind ones and bad weather ones. They won them all and are now the first team in league history to win 16 regular season games.

After battling an inspired Giants team that had its own idea of making history, the Patriots came out on top, 38-35. It took Tom Brady passing for 356 yards (32 of 42) with two touchdowns and his two favorite targets coming up equally big. Wes Welker had 11 catches for 122 yards and Randy Moss had 6 receptions for 100 yards and two record-breaking touchdowns.

Given Steve Waugh's Australian side won a similar number of tests in a row only a few years ago, yet no other team has ever gone through a 16 game NFL season undefeated (the '72 Dolphins played a 14 game schedule) I think the dominance of the Pats is more remarkable than that of the Australians.

In cricket, it also seems that the Aussies are simply more professional/better prepared than their opposition...the Pats are really up against it, fighting the draft and salary cap to achieve dominance.

I don't care too much American sports but after with BALCO and Baseball revelations I find it even harder to take the American sports seriously.
How can you be sure that the Pats have a good team of players or a good team of chemists?

I agree that US sports are scared because of the revelations with Baseball etc but we cannot just assume that every successful team is cheating.

MJP raises some good points with regard to the salary cap and draft etc that can limited teams. While it's near on impossible to compare, Cricket has been on a bit of a downer quality wise for a few seasons now. There is no doubt that the Aussie side is a terrific one but they really haven't been challenged like they should be.
