View Full Version : Greg Chappell's "15 year window"
Dry Rot

Anyone else hear this discussed on ABC radio yesterday?
His theory was that test players (perhaps mainly batsmen) had a window of 15 years. Didn't matter if that started at 18 or 22, it was simply the wear and tear of international cricket, travelling, etc. Said in relation to Tendulkar.
Thoughts on this generally?

I think it is probably a good rule of thumb but there would be the occasional exception.
There is something to be said for rotating and resting players on non essential tours.
I really reckon Gilly is showing signs that he his best days are well behind him.

What a load of bollocks.
No question the travelling would get you after a while but you play as long as your physical attributes allow you to. That might be at 30, might be 35, but it has bugger all to do with how old you were when you started.
