Liverpool 1 Chelsea 1.
Liverpool looked all set to take a 1-0 advantage to Stamford Bridge before disaster struck in the 4th minute of extra time. For reasons only known to him, Liverpool substitute John Arne Riise dived headlong into the 6 year box to steer a harmless Chelsea cross into the roof of his own net!
In the first half Dirk Kuyt gave Liverpool the lead after Frank Lampard & Claude Makalale had failed to clear the ball from Chelsea's defence.
For a game with so little incident, I question the ref's decision to award 4 additional minutes at the end of the game. Given there was only 1 minute at the end of the first half it's hard to fathom, not that Chelsea will be complaining.

I noticed that you were logged onto WOOF early this morning and assumed you would be watching the game. You must have been shattered to see Chelsea get on the score board in the dying seconds. FWIW, Liverpool looked to be the superior side except for that own goal.

I think I'm always logged on, rarely turn the computer off.
Yeah, it was a massive goal to concede. It gives Chelsea the advantage for sure. Now means Liverpool must score at Stamford Bridge, something they've struggled to do. Might need to be adventurous & play big Crouch up front.

Well that'll show me for turning off and going to work at 93 minutes into the game. I heard 1-1 on the radio and thought it was a mistake.

Riise, Liverpool's version of Nathan Eagleton.
When growing up he must have missed the skill sessions at training that taught you how to kick with the opposite foot.
A simple clearance with the 'RIGHT' foot was all that was required not a diving header.

I saw him win a game for Southampton once, he was on a wing practically, kicked it back to keeper but put it straight over his head for an own goal.
Riise is the best ammunition the oppostion have when playing Liverpool.

Barcelona 0 - Manchester United 0
What a glorious early chance to score an away goal by Manchester United. Just 2 minutes in & Milito handles in the box. Unbelievably Christiano Ronaldo sent his spot kick wide.
United would have loved to have taken an away goal back to Old Trafford with them whilst Barca would have loved to have taken a slender advantage.

Unfathomable.
Ronaldo is one of the most reliable spot-kick takers I've seen come through Old Trafford in my admittedly short time following the club.

C Ronaldo great player he is, I think he is slightly overated. Pretty boy players always are.
BTW Fiorentina drew in Glasgow against Rangers this morning 0-0.
Its looking good for a finals berth, fingers crossed.

Bite your tongue Nick!
At home they hardly had a shot on goal. Scotish sides aren't that good.
Fiorentina beat Rangers in the first ever Cup Winners Cup final. Celtic beat Fiorentina in semi I think of the Champions Cup then beat Inter Milan's famous cattenaccio side but apart from that Scotish sides have a poor history vs Italian sides.
I hope I haven't spoken too soon.

Oh I agree that they'll probably get flogged.
I just think that Italian football is far too full of itself. Deserves whatever comes its way.

Why are they full of it? No different from the English, Spanish, French or Germans.
There aren't the best league anymore and they know that. The idiots that support the teams are worse.
The national side is a different matter.

The National side is top class, no doubt.
Italian football as a whole thinks it is top shit and that just gives me the irrits.
They're corrupt and think they rule the world
Treatment of Ahn Jung-Hwan after the 2002 World Cup is a case in point.

True. Lot more exposed there. Elsewhere it just hidden.

Manchester United 1 - Barcelona 0
Manchester United win the semi final 1-0 on aggregate.
A poor clearence by Barcelona after 14 minutes allowed Paul Scholes to hit a thumping shot with the outside of his right foot, giving the goal keeper no chance whatsoever.
A game of few chances really.
So it's an all English final in Moscow in 3 weeks as Manyoo await the winner of the Chelsea/Liverpool tie tomorrow morning.

Hmmm, Scholes with a thumping shot giving the keeper no chance, who'd have thought?:D
All english final in Moscow. I suppose that's one of the interesting things about the Champions League, you play where you're told to play.

Be interesting to see if Riise can score for Chelsea. If ever there was a player with more goals for opposition its him.

Chelsea 3 Liverpool 2
Chelsea progress 4-3 on aggregate.
The better side won this match, there's no doubt about that. Chelsea's early dominance saw them take the lead through Didier Drogba on 34 minutes, a crisp shot after Pepe Reina had saved from Solomon Kalou.
Yossi Benyoun then went for a mazy run through the heart of the Chelsea defence before playing Fernando Torres through on 64 minutes.
1-1 after 90 minutes. Extra time to be played where Chelse thought they had taken the lead. A goalmouth scramble was partially cleared, but Michael Essien thundered a shot into the Liverpool net. Only problem was 3 Chelsea players were offside & interfering with play.
A minute later Massi Hyypia's clumsy tackle on Michael Ballack resulted in a Chelsea penalty which was dispatched by Frank Lampard.
It became 3-1 to Chelse shortly after when Nicholas Anelka played in Didier Drogba for his second on the night.
With 5 minutes left Ryan Babbel's speculative long range shot was fumbled by Petr Chech in the Chelsea goal & suddenly it was 'game on'.
During extra time Liverpool had a claim for a penalty denied when Didier Drogba made contact with Sammi Hyypia but the ref waved play on.
So it's Manchester United v Chelsea in the final in Moscow in 3 weeks time.

Fiorentina lost on penalties. Rangers play St Petersbburg in Manchester now.
I suppose the Italians got some of their own mecidine back.
Rangers hardly left there half all game, Fiorentina pressed and pressed but couldn't penetrate a solid defence. Christian Vieri skyed one and ex bational player Liverani had one saved.

They had a back 9 with 1 striker.
Italian teams get criticised for this sort of stuff.
