With one game to go, who goes up to the EPL?

West Brom have secured automatic promotion.

The other automatic spot is between Stoke City & Hull City. Stoke only need a point whilst Hull must win & rely on Stoke losing.

Whoever finished 3-6 will qualify for the play offs, so one of those 4 teams will also be promoted.

Here are the fixtures which have an impact:

Stoke v Leicester
Ipswich v Hull
Bristol City v Preston
Blackpool v Watford
Crystal Palace v Burnley
Wolves v Plymouth
Southampton v Sheffield United

I think Stoke will be promoted along with West Brom.

As for the play offs, I think Hull, Bristol City, Watford & Ipswich will qualify.

3rd then takes on 6th over 2 legs, whilst 4th & 5th square off. The 2 winners meet at Wembley to see who will be promoted. I think Hull will get through at the expense of Watford.

I asked this on the other thread but can any of these come in and really make a name for themselves in the EPL ?

In a word, no.

The aim of sides being promoted is to avoid relegation immediately.

In the days before money ruined things Nottingham Forest were promoted into the first division & then went on to win the title & also were crowned Champions of Europe. They had a good manager in Brian Clough. Those days are long gone.

I agree, West Brom and Stoke to go straight through.
Hull to go through after the playoffs. How the hell are Bristol City sitting 4th with a -2 goal differential?
I'll have my fingers crossed for Wolves to sneak in for a playoff spot but they have an amazing capacity for not taking these opportunities.

And in answer to your question Sunshine, no. I would tip West Brom to possibly stay up but the others to most likely go straight back down.

West Brom & Stoke City promoted.

Hull City, Crystal Palace, Bristol City & Watford to play off for promotion to the EPL.

Southampton scored a late winner to avoid relegation. Bye bye Leicester City!

Must be Saints experience over the years of avoiding relegation in premier league.
Bit sad to see Leicester go down , drop pretty quickly once you start to fall.

Go the mighty Baggies. Back where they belong :).

****ing goal difference. Wolves missed out on a playoff spot by one goal. For bloody Watford too. Good to see Southampton stay up. Have a soft spot for them from the days when I loved Matt LeTissier...

Crystal Palace 1 - Bristol City 2

Advantage after the first leg well & truly with Bristol City.

Watford 0 - Hull City 2

Going to take a huge turnaround away for Watford to get to Wembley.

Bristol City 2 - Crystal Palace 1 - After Extra Time

Bristol City 2 - Crystal Palace 1 - After Extra Time

Bristol City 4 - Crystal Palace 2 - Aggregate Score.

That doesn't add up (or does the away goals rule not apply?).

The away goals don't apply. If they did it would have been 2-2 on aggregate, but Bristol City would have won courtesy of their 2 away goals.

Hull City 4 - Watford 1 Full Time

So, on Saturday week it's Bristol City v Hull City at Wembley. Winner promoted into EPL.

Hopefully Bristol City get through.

West Brom will do well in the EPL next year and make a name for themselves in the sense that everyone expects the teams to struggle.

How high up can they finish though? I suspect middle of the road would be an outstanding season for them.

12th IMO. They are a very attacking side and will cause teams around them a lot of trouble because while the others will be sitting back and waiting they will be all out attack.

It will be great to see one of these two teams in the top flight. It has been awhile for Bristol City (since 1979) whislt (quote me if I'm wrong) Hull City have never been in the top flight. Unfortunately whoever makes it will probably find themselves coming back down straight away.

Early tip for the Championship next year will be the new millionnaires QPR who will take the comp by storm which will see them promoted to the top flight for the 2009/10 season.

Slightly OT, but the Championship promotion battle will this year feature Leeds United. Who would've imagined about 5 years ago that Leeds would be in League One? They have a chance to head back to the Championship, with Doncaster Rovers standing in their way.

I feel for one of my old lecturers. He's a Leeds United fan, but his hometown is Doncaster, and every year he goes home and attends a home game. I imagine he would be feeling quite torn at the moment.

Don't forget this season the play offs are in reverse order which means the Bristol City v Hull City clash is on tonight at midnight. For those with Foxtel, tune in to watch it.

HULL CITY PROMOTED!!!

Bristol City 0 - Hull City 1

It was Roy of the Rovers stuff as boyhood Hull City fan 39 year old Dean Windass scored a spectacular volley to put his home town club into the Premiership next season. A goal worth winning any game let alone a play off final at Wembley.

It's the first time ever that Hull have been in the top flight of English football.

A fantastic story no doubt. Windass has been around forever, to put Hull into the premier league, what a great parting gift for the club. You'd think that'd be it now.

Hopefully they can be really competitive and avoid relegation.

More heartbreak for Leeds fans, losing their promotion playoff to Doncaster Rovers, who enter the Championship for the first time in 50 years.

Wind-ass. Good old Deano. What a flatulant surname.

As the Times would say to the Premiership's newest team: "Hull-o"!

Now that is a strike. Just goes to show that while age wearies the body, class is timeless.
