"Premiership players" - much is made of them, and some justified eg Aker.

But are they all that they are cracked up to be?

With an objective eye, can you construct your best of premiership players side over the last ten years vs your best of non-premiership players team from the same period, and who would win?

The non-premiership side would have some gun players, from players in their heyday like Grant, West, Robert Harvey, Johnno, Pavlich, Richo, Buckley, Burns, Nietz, Nathan Brown, to young guns like Cooney, Franklin, Hodge etc

What are your respective sides, and who would win in a GF?

The term premiership player is the most over used piece of shit phrase ever.

Look at WC. They have about 17 premiership players and are in the bottom 4. Every premiership sides have their gun players and without them would struggle.

Lots of crap sides have gun players as well. Our 96 side had Grant, West, Wynd, Smith, Liberatore and Romero.

What premiership sides do have is lots of blokes who aren't considered champions but are still very good players.

Stan Alves played 200+ games for Melbourne without ever playing in a final. He was their captain and one third of just about the best centre line in history of Flower, Wells, Alves. At 31 was told they wanted to play kids and if he wanted a clearance they would give him one. He went to North and played in their 77 premiership side.

Did Stan Alves suddenly become a better player at 32 because he played in a premiership?

Yea the whole, "you can never be a great player until you win a grand final" thing is preposterous, and as dogs supporters recently experiencing the likes of Westy, Bubba, Johnno and Chris but not a premiership, we would know this better than anyone.
