Fu***n love transfer seasons, always have, for all sports! Just makes a good time to reassess your team, pick out your needs but more importantly your wants, and watch and wait to see what you manager conjurs up. This transfer season has already promised many great transfers, with the big one IMO being Luka Modric to Tottenham so far (Being a bias Croatian :D).
Being a Liverpool supporter (along with TCD) I really want to see David Silva OR David Villa come in, as that will compete atleast ONE major signing which we desperately need to challenge and complement Gerrard and Torres. Looks as if Gareth Barry might come to us which in my opinion isn't the best option because we should really focus on wingman (such as Silva, impressive in Euro for Spain). Also we have signed Dossena which is a full-back which we need and it seems as if he will break into the starting 11 straight away, a good signing. We also signed Degen, that Swiss international, also a full back.
With the sales of Peter Crouch and John Arne Riise, I'm looking forward to us competing more vigorously for big players this time around, rather than signing 2nd rate players and claiming we will challenge for the title. Also hope to sell Pennant, Voronin, and maybe Xabi Alonso if we bring in Barry so we can gain funds for either Silva or Villa.
Anyway enough of Liverpool, what may your club look for and who are some of the big name transfers at the ready?

Crouch going to Pompey, cant believe Liverpool got rid of him, nice to have a tall bloke to head the ball in ,and no one can get that high!, Not too bad on the ground either considering.
Go Pompey!

It's not a case of getting rid of him. He is in the last year of a contract. When that contract expires he can go anywhere for free. By selling him now, Liverpool are 11 million ponds better off.

I think Liverpool need a tall forward, maybe Fev or Hall.

QPR have put in an offer on Real Madrid (and ex-Spanish international) defender Michel Salgado - apparently he is quite interested - why you would want to move from the La Liga to the Championship is anyone's guess (must see the R's as his superannuation fund).

Sure that no one follows the French league but PSG seem to be trying to put together a team of French champs of yesteryear. Signed Lillian Thuram who turned out to have a heart complaint that means he may never play again. Then in recent days have signed Claude Makelele and Ludovic Giuly. They keep going like this and they'll win the 1998 world cup (yes i know Giuly wasn't there).

28 and paid 19m for him which is way too much.
They probably could have gotten Villa for about 3 million more.

Hope we sign that David Silva kid from Valencia (Spanish International). A real gun winger which would complete our side and make our case for a PL title.

For those of you interested - Kaspar Gorkss (Kaspar who?) has finally signed with QPR. After a long saga the deal was finalised which included the transfer of Daniel Nardiello and Zesh Rehman to Blackpool.
For those that don't know Kaspar Gorkss is a Latvian international. He will be one of the key signings in an attempt to get QPR back to where they rightfully belong....in the Premier League.

Liverpool of course :D
Hate to say it but with the Spurs signing all these guns I find it hard for us to hit up the top 4 again, unless we sign a quality winger. Our side will look like this with Silva for example:
Reina-Keeper, Left back- Dossena, Centre backs- Carragher/Skrtel/Agger/Hyypia, Right back- Arbeloa/Degen, Defensive mids- Mascherano/Lucas/Alonso, RAM- Babel/Kuyt, CAM-Gerrard, LAM-Silva, Strikers-Torres/Keane
I'm not sure where we will fit Keane because he is no Fernando Torres, and with Rafa Benitez and his 4-2-3-1 formation, obviously only one striker. Unless he goes with him on the attacking right which he has hinted, but has had no experience there. Might even see the system change  Also don't know where we will fit Kuyt in the first team therefore I can see him being a benchwarmer this year :( It's a shame because I'm a fan of him.

FWIW, I'm just happy Rafael Van Der Vaart will be with Hamburg for at least one more season. Bit of an insult by Real Madrid. Viva Die Bundesliga.

Villa followed up by signing another full back, Young from boro. Two good signings by O'Neill, in areas we needed shoring up (pun not intended), along with Friedel Guzan and Sidwell, its not a bad haul, quality wise, since the end of last season. I do wish that MON would splash around a bit more of the money that Randy Lerner is apparently happy to put at his disposal though. Villa had the smallest squad in the EPL last season, and so far i think that we're still at a net loss since then.

You're a Villa fan? You wanting Gareth Barry stay with Villa or take the cash and go to Liverpool?
Honestly don't know where he would fit in our plans besides backing up Mascherano who's off to the olympics for a few weeks :S

Barry is a very good player, and he is very versatile, which is really important in a small squad like Villa's. Worth 18mill? Probably not, but we have no need to raise funds, hence the very hefty price tag. I'd be happy if Rafa doesn't meet the asking price, but if Barry does leave, i can live with it, so long as MON doesn't get shy about bringing more players in.

Couple big signings overnight just to lighten up a boring transfer season.
-Robinho to Man City, bit of a shock
-Berbatov to Man Utd, which was always coming
-Quaresma to Inter
-Riera to Liverpool
-Voronin to Hertha
-Finnan to Espanyol
-Corluka to Tottenham
Another couple in my head which I'm failing to remember :S

Speaking of Serie A: Mancini from Roma to Inter...though he was horrid in Inter's 1-1 draw away to Sampdoria.
Digressing slightly, was wonderful to see recently promoted Bologna kick off their Serie A campaign with a 2-1 downing of Ronaldinho's AC Milan, at the San Siro no less :)

The close of the transfer window for me simply proves why free agency, no salary cap and big money transfer fees are not appropriate in the AFL. This isn't a case of sour grapes that Berb's has gone to Man U......blind Freddy knew that as going to happen....its more a gripe at the way in which large clubs abuse free agency of players and "force" transfers.
Hypothetically, lets say that the AFL operated on a similar model to World Football and that the "socialist" measures designed to even up the competition did not exist. Its the close of the season 2008 and the dogies have done well, not quite well enough to win the cup, but pretty good. A key reason has been Adam Cooney's emergence as a dominant midfielder. Cooney's contract has 2 years to run and by then if his development continues his value will be significantly more than it is now.
Collingwood, are cashed up and keen to get a dominant midfielder to complete their midfield. During the season they hold secret talks with Cooney's management suggesting that they would be keen to engage his services and would pay significantly more than the doggies on account of their much higher wage structure. As soon as the season is over, before mad-Monday begins, Cooney walks into Eade's office and says I want a transfer to Collingwood. The Doggies position is untenable. They have a player demanding a move to a specific club, which limits the ablity of them to negotiate with alternative clubs.
For much of the off season Cooney trains with the dogs, but it is obvious that he is not interested. Meanwhile at the boardroom level the Doggies and Collingwood boards try t thrash out a deal. The Doggies set a transfer fee of $30m. Collingwood offer $20m and refuse to budge, but still continue to court the player discussing terms.
As the transfer window close approaches, both sides refuse to budge, but as the new season has started, Eade refuses to play Cooney because of team issues. he is not focussed on playing his best for the Doggies, but is more focussed on a move to Collingwood. It affects the early form of the Doggies, they crash out to the Wooden Spooners, Richmond in the NAB Cup and lose their first 3 games (two by massive margins) to Fremantle, Brisbane and Essendon. Membership sales plummet.
On transfer deadline day, Carlton come in with an offer for Cooney's services of $35m, more than matching the asking price set by the Doggies. The Doggies accept the Carlton offer and allow them to speak with Cooney. Cooney however refuses to meet with Carlton and instead goes to the Collingwood trainng ground and has a fitness test, despire there being no deal agreed between Collingwood and the Doggies. With half an hour to go, the Doggies accept a lower offer from Collingwood as a means of bringing the matter to a head and Cooney is traded....

And before anyone even thinks about bringing it up. Only a fraction of Cooney's salary would count under the salary cap because Amcor give him a job as an 'Environmental Officer' paying him $15 Squillion.

Well he had a terrible time at Milan. Seems to be more a case of an out of form Milan than a out of form Gilardino. Now he is back with his former coach as well.

Rumours/papers here in the UK suggest that they are going to make some BIG plays for some players in Jan and again next year. They were talking about a £130m move for Ronaldo and similar big money moves for Torres and Fabragas........Chelsea were bad enough when Abramovic took over but he's a pauper compared to the Abu Dhabi Sheik.
Also the running joke doing the rounds in Manchester is that every time someone fills up their car they are supporting Man City!
