For me this is the area of cricket that it's just inexcusable not to be good at in this game. batsman and bowlers come and go in varying standards but fielding can be practised until you are better than the other mob.

Australias fieling has been substandard for to long now. It's shameful and needs to be worked on.

It has really stood out on this tour. The Indians aren't as athletic in the field but are holding their chances. Hard to say how to fix it other than just a lot of hard work.

Hayden - has lost a bit.
Katich - Poor but doing OK in the bat pad position.
Ponting - still going well
Hussey - good performer
Clarke - Great fieldsman
Watson - OK but not Symonds
Haddin - had a poor tour with the gloves (perhaps the problem really lies here)
White - solid fieldsman, good catch.
Lee - Good out fielder
Krejza - OK
Johnson - catching issues

Player by player it comes down to more hard work than any fundamental flaw.

That's puzzling. I've never seen him drop a catch (and neither had Mark Nicholas) before Thursday. He's a very good fielder with a strong arm and isn't too slow (apparently was looked at by baseball scouts but i don't remember if he was offered anything)

Haddin hasn't been flash at all. I suspect that Ronchi might pressure him if he doesn't life his game.
Fielding standards are often dictated by the quality and enthusiasm they keeper displays.

This is the area where we used to absolutely smash our opposition.

Where there wasn't much difference between the strength of the respective batting or bowling attacks, it was our superior work in the field that made the difference. Where has that gone?
