Back to back centuries in this game plus a couple of wickets are just part of a very good season so far for him. Does he have any chance to push for higher duties?

Nope. Our entire middle order have gold passes so he can't possibly get a game.

Seems to be the case.

My call on him has always been that he is not up to it. Thats just an opinion from what I have seen. Pure weight of runs is starting to put him in the frame though. Still behind a few others who have done it consistently.

Reality is I think Australian cricket is in a bit more trouble than we all realised. Not sure we have quality batsman bashing the door down with runs to get into the team and Haddin looks like he is in the team 1-2 years too late. So by saying our middle order has a Golden Pass is an easy statement to make. Who should he replace?
Australia is lucky other cricket nations are quite poor also.

Symonds for a start.
Stick a fork in Hayden, he's done.

I coached Marcus North in under thirteens (and he was a better cricketer then than I will ever be !!) and understandably, I have watched his career with interest ever since.
He certainly has the ability and attitude to play well at the next level ... whether he gets his shot or not is another thing ... my opinion is he wont, I agree with the 'gold pass' comment by SS therefore he will probably never get a realistic chance.
But I hope he does !!

Thought after tonight's events it was good to revisit this thread ... How many Australians have made a ton on debut ... Good on him, well deserved !!

He looked very impressive last night and didn't play any rash shots or give any chances to SA. He was conservative and picked the balls he wanted to hit, yet still hit 10 4's. Great debut and hope he goes on to bigger and better things.

With regards to Hilfenhaus, I wonder how many players have made a golden quacker on debut as well? Certainly a contrast.

And take a wicket in your first over under the baggy green ... can't be too many that have done that ...
There's one for you TCD ...
How many Australian test cricketers have made a golden blob in their first dig AND taken a wicket in thier first over of a test match on debut ??
It's almost like a Johnny Walker question ... just need Michael Clarke ponsing about on screen reading it to us:)

Shot selection was elite in his knock the other day. Didnt force anything and looked very much in control. I thought quite a few had done more to deserve a crack at it but he has taken his chance so good on him. Hope t see him make that spot his own now. With Haddin batting as well as he is North doesnt really need to plunder attacks, just play his role.
