I'm not sure hwo many people play No Limit Texas Hold'em but I play a bit online and occasionally at Crown Casino.

I don't regard it as a sport but some people do.
Does anyone play it at all and if so do they regard it as a sport?

I just finished a game online and came 2nd out of 90. I went into the heads-up contest at a massive disadvantage as I had a bit over $15,000 tournament chips and he had about $165,000. Needless to say I didn't knock a hole in his chip stack at all. :D

Although its highly popular I'm not all that sure it constitutes a 'sport' as such.

Texas Hold'em is becoming extremely popular in Melbourne. There's a free tournament circuit operating via many suburban pubs with a points system for competitors to build towards.

No doubting that online poker has greatly assisted the rise of Texas Hold'em as a pursuit.

When I first saw it on TV I thought it would be very boring but the way they presented it made it an easy game to learn.
I joined an online site (pokerstars) and played with play money until I deposited $50 into the account. A group of us from work used to play once a month in these Sit-n-go contests they used to organise. You would play for just under two hours and it would cost $30 however, they would refund $10 of that back as prize money to the winner and provide 2 free drinks plus pay for your parking by crediting $10 to your crown card and they would throw in a few prizes. We then used to divvy the money back to everyone so really the whole night didn't cost too much at all.
We started off with 10 players then had enough interested to run two tables and then eventually three.

We don't play there any more because we all moved onto different jobs but it was a good night and really helped get a lot of us enjoying the game.
