Again another great knock, 65 from 35, with 4 massive sixes. I would like to see he and Hughes given a few games. It's time for some fresh faces andf enthuasism and excitement. That puts Dave at about 10 such innings this year and a few hundreds to boot. Time for haydos to say goodbye and see what out exciting state youngsters can do with an opportunity.

How would you see the side taking shape? Is there really room for him?
Agree that there is no real advantage in Hayden playing the limited over games.

The Warner kid is a GUN.....the shorter form of the game is made for him, have heard quite a bit about him, after a few big scores this season, but watched him & Hughes play S.A in a 20/20 tonight....wow, he hit Tait on the roof of the stand.
I'd get him into the Aussie one day side, he's a natural.

He has to change his name before he plays international cricket. I cant hear about him and not sing Suburban Boy to myself.

I can't see Katich or Hauritz getting a gig in coloured gear (far too defensive), same goes for Tait not getting a go in any uniform without some red in it until he gets quick again. Symodns shouldn't even be under consideration.
Having said that, here's the XI I would choose, with one or two alternates -
Warner/Hughes (Probably Hughes to play more often)
Marsh
Ponting
Clarke
M. Hussey
D. Hussey
Haddin (Ronchi to play at least once)
Johnson
Doherty
Bracken
Hilfy/Geeves/Siddle/Bollinger (All of them will get at least one shot)

Happy with your analysis, i just wanted to cover a few spots. But i agree. The only thing worth noting is a half fit Tait last night looked very, ver dangerous taking 3 wickets for two runs and a dropped cathc in 6 balls. He was very, very quick. I would like him back.
The spinner is the main problem I think. Or whetehr we go 4 fast bowlers, Tait, Bracken, Johnson, Hilfy/Siddle/Bolliner and use the part timers of DHuss and Clarke?

I know this is probably of little significance but in Gilly's autobiography Gilchrist talks to Hayden about giving up one dayers and focusing on tests but Hayden said he would do it the other way around and give up tests to focus on one dayers.

For those who haven't seen Warner, imagine Rodney Marsh, stocky, left hander, who hits the ball as hard as Gilly, his 60 odd off 30 odd last night was fast & furious to say the least, and belting Tait, and not for the first time, all over the park!

I would prefer having the option of a front line spinner in the team. Doherty is a rather good one-day specialist spinner, akin to Brad Hogg in a way, and I think he deserves a crack.

Hogg could back it up in the field and with his batting though. How is XD's batting and fielding?

His batting is not too flash, serviceable at best.
His fielding is solid, if unspectacular.

I have seen him play a few times and his bowling looked awkward but effective but I just couldn't recall him being sharp in the field.
Just throwing some other names up but would Simpson, Smith or North be better all-round batting/spinning options?
Why not stick with Hauritz?

Why not stick with Hauritz?
Hauritz's bowling style, whch relies on changes of pace, is more suited to tests, where the batsmen are more defensive-minded, and thus less likely to go at him for fear of holing out. If he were to play in a one-dayer, he would get slapped more often than not, as the batsmen wouldn't fear these limitations. Essentially, its similar to why Macgill didnt play more ODIs.
As per the all-rounders you suggested, North is good enough to play as a batsmen, but not as our number one spinning option, Smith (I'm assuming Steven) is not ready yet, and Simpson simply isn't international standard. I also would've thought Cam White was ahead of all of these guys.

Im not sure North is that far behind White who's bowling is over rated IMO. They both dont turn it but at least North will hit the right areas.

I saw White bowl in the 20/20 game at the 'G last Friday and he was embarrassing. He was lucky to land the ball on the pitch and he seemed to have no confidence in his ability to land the ball on the 'spot'. I think his over cost 17.
He did rectify the situation by making a quickfire 50, which included 3 sixes in one over. He can seriously smash the ball.

He is a class batsmen and I think he should discontinue with his bowling and work on getting into the aussie top 6 on batting alone. IMO the captaincy has worsened his bowling as he is to unselfish or unconfident to bowl himself in a long spell.

And as we say this White has taken 4/10 off a couple of overs in tonight's T20 game.

Sounds funny to say, but that was the worst 4/10 i have ever seen. I was almost tmpted to start a thread on it.
3 crappy long hops which were very, very badly executed and a bad LBW decision which was clearly hit.
Funny thing is those not watching will look at the stats and say he deserved his spot as a spinner. I think it was pure luck, and no skill at all, and a bad decision that gave him the figures. If he plays it should be as a batsman and then he competes with DHuss for #6. I'd much rather have DHuss. But as an alternate or rotation I have no issue with White playing. But he is not a bowler and in the Simon Katich level of all-rounder.

He bowled very poorly didn't he? Despite playing some test matches in 08 I'm not sure where his cricket is heading.

I think he either has to much pride to shelve the bowling or not enough confidence that he can make it in international cricket with batting alone.

Haha so was I. It was possibly the worst spell I've seen him bowl and he picked up 4/10.

89 off 43.
Wonder whether he or Marsh (averaging sweet FA in 2008/09) will open in the one dayers.

I'd have thought he'd be a better limited overs bowler because the actually plays in the one days for NSW.

And I'd have thought if there's one thing we've learnt this summer it doesn't matter whether or not he gets a gig for the blues.

Wouldn't you think it's an indicator of what he's best at?
Warner was good value. Might be worth leaving him out if he gets the opportunity to get some 1st class games though.
