THE Western Bulldogs will combine an idea borrowed from American football with the spirit of Ted Whitten to produce a match-day supporter item they admit will be a "little bit irreverent".
In each Telstra Dome match, Bulldogs fans will be asked to wave a "Teddy's Towel", a small, red, white and blue towel that will carry Whitten's famous quote "stick it up 'em".
In the first two rounds, when the Bulldogs play home matches against Geelong and Adelaide, mini towels will be distributed free of charge.
The main plank of the merchandising project will see 30,000 towels offered to supporters for $10 each.
Bulldogs consumer products manager Scott Seward said the club hoped to transform Telstra Dome into a hostile place for opponents.
"We're trying not to be arrogant with this, we're trying to be a little bit irreverent," Seward said. "It is about the western suburbs, it is about us and it is about Ted."
The AFL has endorsed the idea the Bulldogs borrowed from the Pittsburgh Steelers, who have a "Terrible Towel".
For each towel sold by the Bulldogs, $2 will be given to the E. J. Whitten Foundation.
