View Full Version : Time Keeper At Old Trafford

Is Sir. Alex Ferguson the time keeper at Old Trafford?

The 4th official holds up the board showing 4 minutes to be played with scores locked at 3 all in a pulsating Manchester derby.

5 & a half minutes into that 4 minutes & Manchester Bloody United score a winner!

I think the board should say '4 minutes, or until Manchester United score'!

Seems to happen frequently at Old Trafford.

Mark Hughes was seething with rage on the touch line. Be interested to hear his views.

It's usually penalties at OT.

Time to mix it up?

He can't talk. He's benefited plenty from it -- I remember a game that they drew 3-3 with Sheffield Wednesday where they came from 3-1 down and scored their last two goals in injury time .. their equaliser in the NINTH minute of injury time. Hughsey was happily revelling in it that day, so he can suck it. What goes around, comes around. (Mark Hughes used to play centre-forward for Manchester United, for the non-soccer initiated around here.)

Let's get the actual story right . The third official gives a time recomended for injury time ,the ref actually adds time for substitutions, goal celebrations[Bellamy took 1 min]. It's the old adage of playing to the final whistle. BTW wasn't it wonderful to see Michael Owen score. Don't you hate noisy neighbours and moaning neighbours 30 miles down the road! :D:D

Spot on you'd think will that Oil money City would buy some decent defenders with that 200 million

Fergie's not a happy camper this week:

"Even Sir Alex Ferguson admitted Villa had edged the first half, but he was irritated at the amount of time added on by referee Martin Atkinson, who decided three minutes was enough for six substitutions and two lengthy injury stoppages.

"The timing should be taken out of the referee's hands," Ferguson said. "Those two stoppages took two minutes and 20 seconds, and then there were the substitutions on top of that. That is disappointing.

"It is silly really. We are nearly in 2010. A change should be made."

Funny how he never refers to that when they score a winner in the 29th minute of injury time! ;)

They had 90+ other minutes to score and couldn't. The bloke just flat out can't hack being beaten. Almost as bad as Mr Wenger.

he does have a point they don't add enough time for subs and injuries [mostly feigned during end of games] but he sounds like a moaner when United get beaten

he's nowhere near as bad as Wenger who complains not only about the officiating but the lack of referee attention against anyside who tackles one of his players.

Remember that period a few years back when Arsenal would rack up about a dozen red cards per season & Wenger never saw a thing!

All the Managers now look to use the presser to tee off on the officials, Mark Hughes is really starting to get under my skin with it!

Just how petty Wenger is that I remember Jose Mourhino saying he sent all the other P/L managers a Xmas card and the only one he didn't receive one back from was Wenger.

Well, there's a surprise!

Manchester united 0
Leeds United 1

Only lost to a League 1 side & Fergie once more has a crack about the amount of time played. Get over it! It gets boring!

I understand that you may prefer that photo, which in itself has nothing at all to do with this particular thread (it is your Birthday, so that may just entitle you to a little gloat! ;).

What is annoying me is that quite often a team in England loses a match the relevant Manager looks at blaming the officials.

Benetiz, Wenger, Hughes (when he was a Manager), Allardyce, Redknapp, McLeish, Brown, Pulis & McCarthy; all serial moaners!

Give me more of the Bruce, Zola & O'Neill types who credit the opposition.

Small time LOWER DIVISION SIDES always play like it's an FA cup final against the big clubs.I'm surprised LEEDS didn't rest a few for the big games coming up against the likes of ROCHDALE or YEOVILL. The F.A cup let's face it lost it's prestige a while ago:cool:

That was the old First Division. The Premier League didn't start until a couple of seasons later -- the club you are talking about, for all its profile as one of the so-called 'big-four' and relative success in other competitions, has NEVER won that particular trophy, actually.

Sir Alex is a right sook, ain'he?

5 mins is hardly 'nothing', and besides, it just gets old after a while.. it's just more signs of repetitive old-man grumpiness he's been displaying for a while. It's not like they had any real chances in the preceding 95 minutes anyway, or looked like they were threatening to score. Weird rant for a game that pretty much just petered out limply.

They are more then that, to Manchester United fans.

The result was a big embarrassment to the whole club, not because it was a League 1 side, but because it was Leeds United.
