Rio de Janeiro to host 2016 Olympics

The Olympic Games will be heading to South America for the first time in 2016.

IOC delegates voted in Copenhagen overnight & Rio was the successful city. The 3 cities that missed out were Madrid, Tokyo & Chicago.

Seriously fantastic news. Fantastic effort by Lula to not only land the world cup but also the olympics as well.


It is great for Brasil, because it puts this beautiful country on the world stage, and is also a reflection on how far they have come in the last ten years or so when they were a serious basketcase. It is also great for South America because they are often looked down upon by the northern hemisphere countries and it is good to share the olympics around between the prosperous and the non prosperous.
