THE Western Bulldogs are expecting scans today to confirm that midfielders Ryan Griffen and Daniel Cross will be sidelined for at least six matches, both with knee injuries received during the second term of Saturday night's victory over the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba.
Cross is believed to have a grade-three medial ligament strain, which is likely to keep him out of action for at least six matches and possibly eight, although a longer absence may be required if the ligament is torn.
Griffen is thought to have a lesser grade one or two strain of the medial ligament, requiring a four-to-six match break, although he could also face surgery to stabilise the knee-cap he dislocated when caught in a tackle in the second quarter.
"Surgery of some description is more than likely for Ryan, but if the scans prove what is expected, Daniel will probably be the one to sit out for the longest period," the Bulldogs high-performance manager, Matthew Drain, said. "We're hoping the worst case for Ryan is six weeks and for Daniel eight weeks. It could be a little less for both if everything went their way."
Robert Murphy played out the game against the Lions after rolling an ankle but is expected to play against Fremantle. Jordan McMahon, who played for Werribee is likely to return, but Chris Grant, however, is likely to come back after the split round.
