Dogs down Dockers in shootout (http://realfooty.com.au/news/rfmatchreport/dogs-down-dockers/2007/06/16/1181414619113.html)

UNTIL Chris Tarrant clambered aboard Brian Harris near the end of the first quarter last night, 11 players had shared the first 11 goals.
Eight minutes into the second term, the run stretched to 15 goals from 14 scorers after Heath Black zoomed to the 50-metre line and added his name to the list; three minutes later, it was 16 goals from 15 players, after Robert Murphy zoomed to the other 50-metre line, and joined in.
The end result — 38 goals from 23 players — fell a little short of the 25-goalkicker record set by the Bulldogs and Geelong eight years ago, but said plenty about a match that was quick, open, even and slightly insane, unsure how it would turn out until the last 10 minutes.
A two-goal lead late in the third quarter was almost surrendered by the Bulldogs, who twice turned over the ball in the final few minutes of the term. Matthew Pavlich's goal after the siren brought the Dockers to within a point and also ensured the Bulldogs kept working.
They pushed ahead again when Scott West scored the first goal of the final quarter and seemed safe when Jason Akermanis added two goals. The Dockers kept in touch when Steven Dodd became scorer No. 23, but Mitch Hahn stretched the lead to four goals with only minutes left.
Brad Johnson kicked five goals for the Bulldogs, who were well driven by Adam Cooney early and by West all night. Youngsters Shaun Higgins and Jarrod Harbrow provided around-the-ground energy and Jordan McMahon was important at half-back.
Pavlich was good all night, but very good once he started scoring, with Bell the Dockers' best, Paul Hasleby just behind and Josh Carr, who was particularly good early, keeping the midfield contest even.
Like they would do again in the third term, the Bulldogs jumped away, scoring their first goal in the first 10 seconds after Murphy ushered through a running Farren Ray shot. They got their second inside the minute, with West in a particularly swift centre-square mood.
But like they did again after half-time, the Dockers found their way back, quickly and emphatically. They scored four goals inside eight minutes, with Bell raising West in the middle, and David Mundy, Des Headland and Tarrant all scoring from space.
McMahon, back in the side after his omission last week, kept the damage to a minimum with some solid running and a well-timed pack mark at half-back, but the Dockers held onto the initiative, leading by four goals at quarter-time and by 10 points at the main break.
The Bulldogs shot away again after half-time, with quick goals to Matthew Boyd and Harbrow helping to wrest back the lead. Pavlich found his own way onto the scoreboard, kicking two goals in a row midway through the quarter, and three for the term.
After his second goal, the Bulldogs responded with a running goal to Boyd and two more to Johnson, who scored first from a set shot and then from the goal line.
