Not sure if anyone else follows this sport, but i thought i would put it out there anyway.

We have a pretty good AIHL (Australian Ice Hockey League) in the country, with some players from overseas coming here during the off season, to keep fit & continue playing.

Melbourne Ice are currently flying along, sitting on top of the table.

Melbourne Ice link (http://www.melbourneice.com.au/)

Also for people who like sport in general, come down next year and check out some International hockey. News recently released over the weekend, that the new Ice House will be hosting its first International tournament.

Date: May 22, 2010

http://iha.pointstreaksites.com/img/news_article_images/379/13148.jpg

Ice Hockey Australia won the rights to host the IIHF's World 2011 Division II Group A Championships at the IIHF's 2010 Annual Congress in Cologne, Germany.

The Championships are scheduled to be held at the new Docklands Ice House, Melbourne, Australia from the 03 - 11 April 2011. The participating teams are (in order of ranking): Serbia / Australia / Belgium / New Zealand / Mexico / DPR Korea.

IHA President, Don Rurak, stated: "It was a close contest against Serbia who also submitted a bid. However, the majority of teams and IIHF Councillors wanted to be the first World Championship ice hockey participants in the Ice House's first historical major international event and vist Australia's sporting capital, the City of Melbourne. With the Ice House being a world class venue, both the teams and Australian fans will be well entertained with 15 exciting games of ice hockey to determine a gold medal winner and promotion to Division I in the 2012."

More news and information to follow as plans get underway.

I'm a Bruins fan, love the sport. It really captured my imagination in the late 90's and I got stuck right in around the time of the lock out. Thoroughly enjoyed watching Samsinov playing for Boston and made an effort to watch as any games on telly as possible.

I watched the playoffs, pre Canberra I was on edge watching us throw away the series - but that is the magic of the game it has the tension of soccer, the physicality of football and some real finesse and skill all crammed into a pretty tight space which makes a great spectacle. I agree with TCD though it is hard work following the play sometimes.

My aim to is to see some hockey in Washington, Boston and NYC later this season. OLD TIME HOCKEY!

I think it's one of those sports, where you have to anticipate where the puck will end up. Especially when you are watching the games on TV, being there live is a little different. I haven't been into any big stadiums to watch games, but smaller ones are like that.

I was in Edmonton earlier this year and the Oilers had a home game on the night I arrived.

My business associate I was visiting has season tickets but thought I would be too tired from the flight and gave that nights tickets away.

What do people think of the new Stanley Cup ad for this season?

Not one of the best ads, but not totally shit either.

The words used in the song suit the Stanley Cup, but i think it could've been more creative

It's a sport I have an interest in having an interest in if that makes sense. Most of this is thanks to the EA games, as Ice Hockey is probably the most enjoyable sport to play on a gaming console.

It is at Harbour Town behind what was the Big Wheel. Very nice facility.

Melbourne Ice games have been selling out, suggest that you prebook tickets and arrive early. Capacity is about 1500-2000 and the seats fill up real quick.

Who do you follow Flamethrower?

I am a huge fan of the underachieving Toronto Maple Leafs. I was in Toronto during the 1993 playoffs when they made a run for the Cup. Unfortunately Wayne Gretzky and the LA Kings knocked them out in the Conference championships, but I was totally caught up in the passion and excitement of the city (especially during their series against the arch rival Detroit Red Wings.

I was already a huge hockey fan before this but didn't really follow a team - I got into hockey after watching the "Miracle on Ice" US win the Gold Medal in Lake Placid.

July 20, 2010

Kovalchuk agreed yesterday to a contract that is reported to be worth $101 million U.S. over 17 years. Not that anyone expects the 27-year-old Russian to play for 17 years. This is another one of those front-loaded deals designed to make for a gentler salary-cap hit.

Nice work. I am hoping the mustangs come in, more opportunities to see the game down here. I missed a few games after getting board because there is only so much sport you can squeeze in so any extra matches is great.

Seriously considering getting an Ice membership though.

I will be getting a Mustangs membership if they are in the AIHL, even if they don't, i will still go to general games.

Melbourne will probably see a spike in membership, given the 2010 winning season.

I watched the Pens v Habs this morning, can't believe the Habs got the win in the end. They were down 2-1 with about 3 minutes to go, then scored 2 goals in 24 seconds.

Check out the Fleury stuff up, terrible goal tending.

I know Phoenix have been putting a good thing together on the ice but an opening game loss for the Bruins to them is frustrating. I'm sure they went in expecting to win but the Coyotes were fast and hardly made any errors. B's just looked sluggish and got creamed through the neutral zone. 5-2 loss in the opener.

3-0 win in the 2nd game, so not all bad. Haven't caught the highlights yet.

Ended up seeing a few games in the US, Kings v Stars was brutal - the entire game was played shorthanded almost due to the amount of penalties and punch ups. LA crowd was right into it as well, which I was not expecting so much. Like a Collingwood game.
