Special pup for family's last Christmas
    Posted by: Matt Cram | 25 November, 2014 - 10:48 AM

3AW listeners donated nearly $30,000 in about 20 minutes this morning to help a Melbourne family enjoy what's likely to be their last Christmas together.

Two of Lee White and Michael McNeil's three children - son Ashley, 22, and daughter Sam, 17 - have terminal cancer and Sam has only been given until Christmas to live.

When asked by Neil Mitchell how 3AW could help make it an extra special Christmas for her family, Ms White didn't think twice.

"Samantha has always wanted a bulldog puppy, but we've never been able to get her one," Ms White said, adding that a pup would remind them of Sam throughout her life.

"She barracks for the Western Bulldogs."

Neil Mitchell asked for donations to make that happen.

He set the bar at $4000 and that was smashed within about three minutes.

The calls came flooding in with cash and gift donations valuing up to about $29,000.

And we found a little female bulldog puppy, pictured below, in Maryborough!

We've touched base with the Western Bulldogs who say they're happy to help make the Christmas period extra special.
"Footscray people are incredible people; so humble. I'm just so happy - ecstatic"

For the few all access area and media thing we can do each year, I'd rather see our club doing this and not a disheartened kid (no offence to the kid or us). So young and so harsh that they won't see a premiership. Life is unkind sometimes.
