Ling Jong racial slur: Richmond fan says sorry

    Link:

A RICHMOND fan who made a racist remark about Western Bulldogs midfielder Lin Jong at the MCG on Saturday has apologised.

The Tigers supporter came forward this morning after hearing about his remarks in the news.

Jong has accepted the apology but told the offender his comments during the Tigers-Bulldogs clash were unacceptable.

Jong is expected to release a statement this afternoon reminding footy fans to be mindful of their conduct.

The offender is not a Richmond member.

Jong was born in Melbourne to a Taiwanese mother and East Timorese father.

Fan behaviour came under the spotlight after two separate incidents during the Bulldogs and Tigers clash.

A Western Bulldogs cheer squad member was reported to Victoria Police for a homophobic remark.

The club was considering whether to revoke the supporter’s membership.

The Bulldogs spectator was immediately evicted from the ground and their details were passed on to the AFL.

MCC spokesman Shane Brown said: “We can confirm a patron was removed from the grounds after making a homophobic remark.”

Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge was unaware of the circumstances surrounding the incident also but remained adamant that the game would not tolerate vilifying abuse of any kind.

“I am aware of it. I don’t know any detail. We know homophonies and racists, there is no place for them in society,” he said.

“Anything that happened, we don’t condone it, but I just don’t know the detail.”

Western Bulldogs defeated Richmond by 19 points in the second round game at the MCG.

Where is our 'fan' saying sorry to help our club? It would be nice for them to stand up and not have the blowtorch on us (members) and the club.

    I sure hope that's a transcribing error.

Oh dear. If it came from the Hun, they make blues like that all the time. I hope it was their error!
