Don't really listen to SEN nowadays as much and especially don't listen to that Mark Fine show anymore as there are other ways too get news on the footy and we have forums like WOOF to discuss our club and other footy issues. Is it the same old callers ringing week after week?

Yes he has got his views which is fine but from memory from when I listened to him when a caller called in with view that differs to his views then he tries to shut them down. He has cut people off quite a few times.

The people of Australia did not vote for him to be Australian of the year. Talk to a lot of fans. I have a bunch of friends in sunshine, all immigrant Maltese, Italian etc. They can't stand him.
So do people hate Steve Waugh ? He was voted " Australian of the year"?
I think like Waugh, Goodes has done some decent things off field .
I think the issues been blurred somewhat, as it's a SECTION of footy fans booing him racially, and personally I don't want to boo with the section that are bigoted .

I think Finey is part of the 'you're not the boss of me' faction, and has trouble grasping the broader issues.

It's entirely at Adam's discretion how he would like to perform the dance. A lot of this comes down to respecting the autonomy of the minority culture. It's not up to you to determine or judge the significance of the dance, or how Goodes feels about Australia Day, or how offensive the booing directed at him is. Just listen.
Well not in the court of public opinion. What you say is true, but not right. When Adam does his dance in front of a bunch of Collingwood supporters after kicking the winning goal, I'm sure we can just cite the Wikipedia article to them and I'm sure it will smooth everything over. it's a passionate sport! It's incitement, pure and simple, to opposition fans. The fact is there are indigenous writers who are uncomfortable with his cultural appropriation as people have cited in the thread. As Gvg says, that doesn't permit the knuckle-headed booing of him, Mexican wave like crowd sourced entertainment, for every possession he gets.

Can't remember Waugh saying Australia was based on lies, which taken as a sound bite, without listening to the whole speech, might cause friction. But considering the exploitation of aboriginal labor, rape, forced family separation, exploitation of resources etc, I totally understand Adam's point of view. And we do need people to bring these issues up, so good on him. He might want to remember that how you say things is important too. Listening to ABC radio national, there are a real diversity of opinions.

If he'd made the speech at any other ceremony or function, it would not have reached its intended audience.
When you stand up for something, you don't ask the people you're standing up to for permission. You don't ask them what time would be more convenient for them.
Same goes for the war dance. I've heard twits on the radio compare it to the haka, and claim he should have directed it at the opposition like the Kiwis do. Well, the opposition players weren't booing him. In fact, they've mostly come out in support.
Did he need to ask for approval to stand up to the crowd? NO.
The 13 year old. It's not his fault she said what she said. Maybe he could have handled it differently if she'd blurted it out at a different place and time, but that's not what happened. Did he need to ask permission to take offence? NO.
Is Adam Goodes sometimes inciteful? Even divisive? You betcha. And rightly so! Those freedoms were hard fought.

Even worse. You could take several people fake out with one of those.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.
