AFLPA Awards - Best Captain - BOB

Western Bulldogs captain Bob Murphy has received the acclaim and adoration of his peers, claiming the Best Captain Award at the AFLPA MVP Awards on Tuesday night.

The peer-voted award saw Murphy voted a clear winner on 226 votes, ahead of Hawthorn premiership skipper and last year's award winner, Luke Hodge (144 votes).
Taylor Walker (94 votes), Shannon Hurn (42 votes) and Nick Riewoldt (37 votes) completed the top-five in the award's voting.

Murphy assumed the role at the start of the 2015 pre-season campaign, following the departure of former skipper Ryan Griffen for the GWS Giants and the arrival of new coach Luke Beveridge.

Murphy is only the fourth captain to claim the AFLPA award in their first year of captaincy, joining Michael Tuck (1986), Stephen Kernahan (1987) and Jonathan Brown (2007).

The 292-gamer has embodied the daring game-style that's seen the Club return to the finals for the first time in five seasons, leading the side for rebound 50m, kicks and running bounces.

In other successes for the Western Bulldogs at the AFLPA MVP Awards, the "Sons of the West" documentary series received the prestigious Grant Hattam Award for journalism excellence.

Love is not strong enough of a term. I can't wait for round 8 next year and seeing his banner dropped down from the top of Etihad next to EJ, Doug, Chris, Scotty, Bubba and Johno.

And the flick pass from Teddy Jnr to Doug, hand pass to Chris, tap onto Westy, quick hands to Bubba to his best mate Johno and newly crowned best captain getting on the end of it.

    Bobby!!!!!

These awards are voted by the players and with something like 700 plus players, Bob is considered the best Captain and of all 18 teams. A great honour and well deserved.

Congrats Bob and well deserved, you've certainly come a long way from the little bloke pushing in for Croftys autograph.
Also kudos to Bevo for selecting Murph, a lot of 'what if's' about Murph being Captain earlier but I'm not sure the partnership with Macca would have worked on the same level as it does with these two.

Not to mention Stringer captain of the under 22's.

Great for the club to have both captains honoured on the night from the dogs.
