Malthouse names '87 Dogs and '02 Pies as his favourite teams

    http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/af...-1226161570514

Curious little article. Really wish it went into more detail.

Those of us old enough to remember would've expected to see Malthouse quote the '85 team if any.

'87 was still a good team that only missed finals in the last round.

No great shock as he's on record saying that was his best coaching .
He did a great job that year considering what we'd lost in the 2 years previous .
I know people hate the grumpy prick, but he was a great coach for us .
Did a great job to get that 02 pie team into a GF and nearly win against a brilliant team .

That article is from 2011 and I am sure we have discussed previously.

He also said Andrew Purser was the best ruckman he had coached.

After the best game I have ever seen. R22 1987, even though we lost a finals spot was a magnificent game of football. I don't think anyone who was there will ever forget it.

And if you are going to go through the pain of having a spot in the finals snatched away in the last few seconds of a season then the fact that a out and out gun like Robert Flower got that spot lessened the pain. A little bit. Mind you the further they went into the finals the less charitable I felt.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.
