Re: Membership 2017 - Target 50,000
There are members out there who like to sign up at the first home game. Be interesting to know how many sign up tonight.

Staggering to think we only had 3000 members in 1989!
I was 6 years old then....and our family was 5 of those 3000!!

I was born in early 89. Good on all the 3000 paid up members. So different nowadays with 40,000 odd.

40,736 members and climbing - a new record.
But then again, I'm an Internet poster and Bevo is a premiership coach so draw your own conclusions.

I think it means there's a 60% increase in new members.

Re: Membership 2017 - Target 50,000
My son was at the Dahlhaus clubhouse footy clinic on Monday. I couldn't make it, so asked my wife how he (my son) went at the clinic. She responded that she had no idea, as he became just one of a sea of young bulldogs in red, white and blue jumpers. She said that there was a staggering amount of young boys and girls there - maybe a thousand. And they still have another clinic scheduled for later in the year for kids who either didn't choose the April clinic - or couldn't get a spot.
So many young members out there.

Re: Membership 2017 - Target 50,000
Spoke to the club this morning:
42,858
Roughly somewhere around 8,000 up on same time last year. So around 48,000+ is my unofficial guess, but if we keep winning and there's one last surge of lost dogs and new dogs, then 50,000 members in 2017 is now possible. Our little footy club could have 50,000 members in 2017!! God I hope we can crack it this year, it'd be just bloody amazing.

650 were due to attend according to my sources at the club.

I made the mistake of trying to debate the cost effectiveness of a $95 3 game membership over other luxuries like smokes/fast food/coffee with non-member Bulldogs fans on a Bulldogs Facebook page. Plenty of non-member supporters out there claiming they can't afford the $7.50 a month to be a member and for those that genuinely are in financial distress and below the poverty line, I get it. Other things like bills, food, shelter, kids are way more important. But if you can afford the $7.50 a month, why wouldn't you sign up and financially support the club and help it survive.
No wonder we got 100,000 to the parade and heaps to the post-GF family day. Plenty of fans out there who believe supporting from home makes them no less a supporter.

That's the staggering part, the parade. We should all know we can't afford to be a bandwagoner club, where you come out to bask in wins and not follow footy when times are tough. Like we all think, if you can't afford it that's more than fine. But if you can afford that $7.50 a month and choose not to, then yo me you're accepting being on this amazing ride without buying a ticket like the rest of us. That ticket helps our club keep this ride going for as long as possible.
Really, if what this club gave all its fans last year and if that's not enough to sign up, then they never, ever will (8,000 new folks have, good on you all). And it's virtually pointless trying to get them. But good on that new 8,000 card carrying members, and hopefully we can see another 2,000 card carrying members to hit 50,000.

Hopefully, all the kids that were at that parade, or viewed the Grandfinal, or at Whitten Oval on the Sunday, will continue to be Doggies supporters, so in ten or so years time will buy memberships when they grow up. We have to have sustained success to hold on to these juniors as well as engage and make them part of the club and they will buy memberships when they start working and earning dollars.
