    Mystery Dogs footy?

I got I really good Xmas present from a Swans mate, who was down in Melbourne and went to WO to pick some Doggies stuff for me late last year.

One present was a used club sherrin from a box of balls. It has 2 markings on it: "VFL" and "CLEAVER".

I presume VFL means it was used by Footscray, but does anyone know anything about "CLEAVER"?

The VFL property stewards name for the last couple of years is Zach Cleaver. Imagine his name is on the footys if the balls get mixed up on game day. Not very exciting I know.

Cleaver are a large firearm distributer, they may have sponsored the match ball.

I couldn't believe it the first time I found out they were selling old match balls at the club shop. Back then they were knocking them out at 20 bucks a pop thinking they were just used footys and not realising the actual value the ball would have beacause it had been used in an AFL game. I think the balls there are still relatively cheap but a bit more than 20 bucks these days.
Have you been reading those Roddy Doyle books again, Dougal!?

I have a footy held by VFL and AFL premiership players.

Indeed you do. If you examine the ball carefully you may be able to find in very worn texta the name and date of the match the ball was used in its usually written close to the top stitching on the right hand side of the emblem or writing or whatever is on the front. All mine have it written on.

Yeah I bought myself one and one for a work colleague as a parting gift around 2012 and they were in a wire basket near the counter I think they were $60 back then. It has the Bulldog gold stamp, the Mission logo and written in biro is WB and the date. I got it signed at training during elimination final week by most of the players. Straight to the pool room (mantle piece in the lounge).

Pretty sure they are all training balls.
But then again, I'm an Internet poster and Bevo is a premiership coach so draw your own conclusions.
