    From the Past - Essendon

Essedon has always been our natural enemy and one of my most hated clubs. We have had some good battles with them.

    What are your favourite games?

I will kick off with the famous victory in round 21, 2000.

    FFC: Established 1883

    Premierships: AFL 1954, 2016 VFA - 1898,99,1900, 1908, 1913, 1919-20, 1923-24, VFL: 2014, 2016 . Champions of Victoria 1924. AFLW - 2018.

Local derby. Always good when we beat this mob.

Who else can say they have seen Footscray beat Essendon at Windy Hill by 100 points? I can. 1977 and the scores were 189-89 from memory.

I really hate North with a passion but Essendon isn't far behind. Something always seems to happen when we play Essendon doesn't it? If it's not Critter Kretiuk punching Matty Lloyd's broken hand or us not kicking a goal until 3/4 time and still nearly winning the game then it's Doug Hawkins taking a 1-2 handball from Phil Maylin and slotting a goal in the third quarter in that cracking game in 1985.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

And we are still the reigning Champions of Victoria thanks to a win we had over Essendon in 1924.

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1924...ip_of_Victoria

That makes us the Champs going on for 91 years and we don't look like being knocked off our perch many time soon.

It's just a shame the boundary isn't a shopping strip where we could taunt the Essendonians after our victory. I think the boundary is mostly the river. Not so many locals to taunt with a river.

I live in the middle of it, went to school there and my kids also go to school in Essendon. They have at least had a better time of it than me in the 80's
For those who were always the underdogs and wore it as a badge of honour.

This is my favourite game verse Essendon TD. I remember it vividly. Think we kicked about 10 goals in the last quarter. I was standing on the outer wing. A beautiful day.

I have a theory there are more Bulldog supporters than Essendon supporters living in Essendon. I used to go to Essendon station most mornings and there were always more cars with bulldog stickers than Essendon. Of course that could have been people from the west driving to Essendon early and taking all the car parks, that's entirely possible.

Remember the second game at Windy Hill. Les Bamblet had his appendix out the week before and was a surprise starter. (Are you listening Eddie Betts ). We lost that game after a bad start, but stormed home kicking 7 in the last, but got pipped by 24 points, basically the lead Essendon had in the first quarter.

I grew up in Essendon and went to primary and high school there. I can assure you - there is more Essendon supporters in Essendon than other clubs supporters combined....and they are awful.

Growing up a non-bomber in the heart of Essendon - you can imagine where they are on my ladder of 'liked' teams.

    Here is what I reckon:

Areas west of the Melb. CBD but east of the Maribyrong

The suburb of West Melbourne = West of CBD (Doggies)
Port Melbourne = south-west of CBD (Doggies and Saints, old South Melbourne)
Flemington/Kensington/Ascot Vale = North-West of CBD (Doggies, Kangaroos, Bombers)

    * The half time fight in 2000

    * The drawn match, I think 2002 when Lloyd had a shot on the siren to win, from 20 metres out and kicked a point to draw the match.

    * The mark that dirty little bugger took standing on Johnno's head

    * Drawn match 1979, KT 6 goals

    * Scotty West debut year, kicked 6 against Essendon in his 5th game, at WO, and they won the flag that year

This is how you pack it out at a suburban ground. Over 33,000 jam packed in.
