Stringer did himself over, it was common knowledge within all clubs that’s why only one club put up . Long may Dodoro stay at the bombers.

Absolutely. That last minute Chris Grant brain fart hurt. As I’ve said history says on the actual draft picks taken it was:
Schache & Richards - for - Sam Taylor, De Koning (Carl), Balta & delisted WCE player.
Stringer was not too bad all things considered. But Schache was a disaster.

We paid a bit of a price for it but learned a lesson.

I think Baz will re-sign. Don't know anything, but just what I reckon.

Everyone in the industry knew we wanted rid of Stringer before Beveridge opened his gob.

Silver linings - Stringer trade got us Richards (it got us more than that but we flushed the remaining draft collateral down the toilet with Schache). It also helped that Richards was driving a shit-box at the time which made him late for his draft interview with Carlton, so they ended up taking Lochie O'Brien with their pick 10 that year instead.

Point being is we lost what little leverage we had when Bevo went rogue.

Can you double click into this a little?
Are you saying that if we?d kept the draft picks essendon gave us and not brought in schache we would have been able to (not necessarily would have) drafted Sam Taylor or Noah Balta?

If we didn’t do Schache & Carlton (Richards). If we kept the picks and selected the same players other clubs did. We would’ve drafted Taylor, Balta & De Koning plus a WCE guy who got delisted last year.
So taking out Schache & WCE Guy.
The players playing regular footy now:
Us: Richards
Others: Taylor, De Koning, Balta (Stringer)
Schache alone was Balta with 25 and Wooler with 40.

I think we assumed we would be able to rely on all that equity we won in the Crameri trade.
