Why do we refuse do the the 1%?s ?
Protect Cody snapping for goal the other week.
Shepherd on our goal line.
Smash the ball over on their goal line.
It?s driving me insane. Are we too good to do it. Is it beneath our players. Do they not care. Are they coached not to do them.
I mean if you can?t kick straight at goal. If you can?t protect 20-30 point margins. At least do some team things.

Re: Why do we refuse do the the 1%?s ?
A lack of situational awareness and composure feels like a common theme, often in crunch moments and probably not helped by fatigue. Blokes are typically trying I suppose, they're just not thinking.
The lack of communication between our key backs in particular is frightening whenever the ball's in dispute back there. They're often either barrelling into each other and going to ground or hesitantly sitting off the contest and spectating instead of shepherding to assist or presenting as a quick-give outlet.
Duryea for his limitations tends to process those situations fairly intelligently but the rest of our current (true) defenders are a bunch of blunt objects with low panic points which tends not to end well when the whips are cracking.

Another thing. Bont was blanketed out of the game, he's our main midfield weapon and match winner.
Why weren't the other mids into Ward?
We seemed to just let it happen.

No. No stat for it. If there was we’d dominate it too.

Re: Why do we refuse do the the 1%?s ?
We used to be very good at the 1%'ers. Unfortunately the message is not getting through anymore.
We need to reenergise the team and the list. We need leadership.
It doesn't take much to revitalise the list as we have seen with other teams.
I know Nathan Buckley has said that a list like the Bulldogs would make him contemplate coaching again. It would be a shame to waste this list.
Unfortunately it has to start at the top and it is time for a change.

They're see ball get ball players, and either they don't think about anything other than themselves or their line coach and the broader coaching group have too much faith in their ability to control the midfield.
Bont should have tagged Coniglio and worked off or treated him physcially while one of the other mids should have been putting physical pressure on Ward.
What we got instead was two midfielders without enough penetration from stoppages getting huge numbers.
Nobody's looking for a puppeteer in today's wintry economic climate.

Exactly this regarding the hard tag on Bont. Can't emphasise enough how we had no coordinated plan to upset Ward.

It’s been coached out them.
They just don’t invest in that sort of dogged, hard nosed style of footy.

Attitude reflects leadership. We don't demand the absolute best from each other, so for me they are clearly not committed to win a flag. Isn't that partly why Dunks left? Our players are not professional enough in their own standards & the expected standards of each other.

When you put it like that…

I wonder what Dunks is thinking this morning after the Lions shit the bed against a coachless Suns team by 41 points to jeopardise their chance of a top two finish.

Do you have any proof to these claims about the lack of professionalism? No doubt in Covid times there was issues, but I have no reason to believe the standards aren’t high now… but you may have some insights that I don’t.

He's probably consoling himself that it could be worse, he could still be relief rucking for his former employers who shart the sheets to the tune of 35 points against a middling outfit to jeapordise their chance of even playing finals while thinking "Phew! Dodged a bullet" ...
