Perhaps some of our WOOF WA contingent can explain why Swan Districts is producing such good quality junior footballers at the moment?
The highly rated candidates for this draft include:
Michael Walters
Chris Yarran
Neville Jetta
Jarrad Blight
Clancee Pearce

None of them might go in the top 10 but all have strong claims to get selected within the first 3 rounds.

Is it just luck that these players landed at Swan Districts or are they a side that is good on the development of their youngsters?

Of course I should have added his name but it was more about that next tier of players anyway and asking why the club has developed so many talented players.

Looks an impressive list of players and it would be interesting to find out if they have done anything differently to other sides.

If that was all their draft chances it would be impressive. But when you add in Parry, Banfield, Wolfenden, Daly etc. The amazing thing is they sacked half of their development team (including premiership winning colts coach Chad Morrison) at the end of 2007, yet the results have kept on coming.

From a zone perspective, the WA clubs supposedly get an equal go at the state (numbers wise) with zones being regularly realigned...maybe the black ducks have just got lucky?

So the zones are aligned on the basis of population?

Does Perth have an area similar to Melbourne's West where there is a high immigrant population and soccer is the dominate code? Which poor sods copped this zone?

If so, that is a quite a accomplishment by one team. The draft has a long history of a dominant team providing a number of players over a season or two.

A few TAC cup sides have had long periods of dominance over the years as well. It cannot all be coincidence. Some of the credit has to come back to the development the coaches put into these kids.

Walters was one player who really caught my eye at the National Champs.

Big fan of Wolfendon myself, would love to see him get picked.

While we're at it im only 15 so therefore I have seen lots of junior development footy playing for East Perth against Swan Districts and their talent is still coming through. Have one boy by the name of Jacob Burnham who is one to watch for the future, got player of the carnival at state 15's level..

Had 5 or 6 selections for this state squad so they weren't too short on dominance.

Interesting comments by B6, but it doesn't always work that way...the Calder Cannons have often struggled at 16's level yet been the best performed side at u18 level for a decade or more (ignoring this years abomination). Some players do their best work at 16 years of age...that is just the way it goes. Swans have been pretty unstoppable at colts level over here for 2 years now - and that includes sacking the premiership coach after 2007 season - and there is no doubt that this level of success can quickly build a culture of excellance that lasts....as the top-age players move on, the bottom-agers - already 'inducted' into the culture and understanding what is required - carry the torch and make sure the new group coming through (last years u16s) quickly understand what will and wont be tolerated...it might only take one year to establish - or END - the cycle of success though.

I've got them at Bassendean in round 3 next year, so here's hoping they are happy with '2'!
