    Re: 2008 Draft Challenge

    1. Melbourne: Watts - The obvious choice.
    2. West Coast: Rich - Need to build their midfield again.
    3. Fremantle: Naitanui - Huge potential & covers the loss of Warnock.
    4. Port Adelaide: Vickery - They really need to adress this need. Lade/Brogan getting older.
    5. Essendon: Hartlett - Need another quality inside ball winner for mine.
    6. Carlton: Hurley - Desperate for a key back. Dons might snap him up though.
    7. Brisbane: Yarran - Need quality medium-small options up forward. Seems a good fit.
    8. Richmond: McKernan - Adds to their young KP list (Riewoldt, Hughes).
    9. North Melb: Ziebell - Probably will go best available. Adds to the midfield & can kick goals.
    10. Adelaide: Johnston - Crows still require a quality KPF despite Tippet looking OK.
    11. Collingwood: Sidebottom - Good skills, finds the ball & can finish. Fills a need. Burns' replacement.
    12. Sydney: Trengrove - They have quite a few needs, but this is a solid market for talls. Hall/Micky O/Barry all ageing.
    13. St. Kilda: Blease - A lot have him slipping, but the Saints still need players with skills & pace.
    14. Bulldogs: Cordy - F/S.
    15. Geelong: Swift - Injury clouds, but the Cats will be patient. Require a KPF but it's hard to pass up on potential.
    16. Hawthorn: Davis - Should think they'd go for a KPD.

    2. Who will be the big bolter in the draft?
    Post, early second round.

    3. Who will be the big slider?
Hill. Decision making and therefore skills the reason.

    4. Who will Clayton pick at 31 & 32?
    No idea.

    5. Who should he have picked at 31 & 32?
    No idea.

    6. Who will be the first recycled player to be picked up?
    Ben Cousins.

    7. What will be the big story of the draft?
    Eagles pass up on Naitanui.

    8. What will Clayton say to the media about his selections?
We were confident these two players would fall to our selections because nobody else has ever heard of them.

    Re: 2008 Draft Challenge

I kind of went a bit nuts and did the whole thing, just cause uni's finished and i need to do something to fill the time. So here's my 80 or so picks:

Players in brackets are others I considered at that pick.

    58. Richmond - Liam Jones (Sibasodo, O'Keefe)
    59. North Melbourne - Steve Motlop (Gugliotta, Sibasodo)
    60. Adelaide - Charlie Sharples (Mangan)
    61. Sydney - Jason Davenport (Klemke)
    62. Sydney - Pass
    63. St.Kilda - Nathan Carroll
    64. Western Bulldogs - Pass
    65. Hawthorn - Brad Mangan (Al Smith)
    ----
    66. Melbourne - Tom Allwright (Gilchrist)
    67. Carlton - Nathan O'Keefe (Sibasodo)
    68. Port Adelaide - Danny Meyer (Sengstock, Walsh)
    69. Essendon - Adam Cockie (Gillies)
    70. Fremantle - Hayden Ballantyne (Hall, Broughton)
    71. Brisbane - Tom Hill (Hunt)
    72. Richmond - Tom Rockliff (Hall)
    73. North Melbourne - Zach Sengstock (B Carroll)
    74. Adelaide - Luke Shiels (Stopp)
    75. Collingwood - Michael Gugliotta (Leigh Brown)
    76. Hawthorn - Rory Sloane
    ----
    77. Melbourne - Pass
    78. Fremantle - Zach Clarke (Murray)
    79. Port Adelaide - Pass (Josh Carr PSD)
    80. Essendon - Pass (For PSD, may take Hislop and will look at alternatives)
    81. Carlton - Ian Richardson
    82. Brisbane - Joel Smouha (Purves, Sibasodo)
    83. North Melbourne - Bryce Carroll (Klemke)
    84. Adelaide - Pass
    85. Brisbane - Pass
    86. Hawthorn - Caleb Tiller (Klemke)
    ----
    87. Fremantle - Pass
    88. Essendon - Pass
    89. Carlton - Chris Johnson (Gillies, Klemke)
    90. North Melbourne - Kade Klemke
    91. Hawthorn - Pass

Just as a side note that is a lot harder than it looks, and will probably be completely wrong anyway. Despite my placings, i think Bryce Carroll, Kade Klemke and Rockliff will all go higher than I have placed them.

I also think the following will be drafted, but couldn't fit them in: Chris Hall, Taylor Hunt, Johnny Rayner, Alex Stopp, Casey Sibasodo, Aaron Purves, Jake Walsh, Sam McGarry, M Martin, Tom Gillies. I don't think Mitch Banner will be drafted.

And as a disclaimer I have never seen, and don't claim to have seen any of these players in real life or in a full match. All this is based on are youtube videos, rumours, my opinion of what kind of player the clubs recruiting staff like, my opinion of what types of players the clubs will be looking for, and largely phantom drafts and profile threads/articles written by Ant555, Foj1, Snoopdog Quigley, Bulldogs6, MJP, and the official Bigfooty phantom draft.

i do not expect this to be close to accurate, but if I get 10+ picks correct I would be ecstatic.

    2. Who will be the big bolter in the draft?
Depends how you rate them before hand. i reckon Mitch Robinson will go top 12, and the Bigfooty consesnus seems to think he'll go around 18. Is that bolting?

    3. Who will be the big slider?
Sidebottom is in my draft, but I hope Schoenmakers slides all the way to pick 31.

    4. Who will Clayton pick at 31 & 32?
O'Keefe and Schoenmakers if available, otherwise any of the players I mentioned.

    5. Who should he have picked at 31 & 32?
I trust him to make the right decision. His guess is better than mine.

    6. Who will be the first recycled player to be picked up?
Jason Davenport. Could fit in at Sydney, Freo, North or Melbourne so he'll be taken earlier due to competition. having said that he might not go at all.

    7. What will be the big story of the draft?
Rich at pick 5. Naitanui falls down the stairs on his way in to Telstra Dome.

    8. What will Clayton say to the media about his selections?
"We feel *insert name* has a lot of upside and could well be an important part of the Western Bulldogs forwardline in 3 years alongside players like Grant and Boumann"
"Very glad he slipped this far"

    Re: 2008 Draft Challenge

Good to see you mention Stopp, he's one who has very much gone unnoticed but could well get drafted.

Would be pretty happy with these selections from a Bulldogs point of view.

    BUT, 13 of the 16.

    2. Who will be the big bolter in the draft?

Post - Hawks need for key defenders pushes him into the first round as other clubs use their first round picks to sure up KP stocks.

I was tempted to pull the gun on Schoenmakers too, as I think someone will jump on him early, but I'm just not sure who. Perhaps North, Crows or the Swans.

Should have done it. Didn't think Hawks would go for him, but could easily see him becoming a modern day CHB, much like Everitt.

    3. Who will be the big slider?

Michael Walters - Looks a likely type, but in a deep midfield/KP draft small forwards will slide.

Slid even further than I thought he might.

    4. Who will Clayton pick at 31 & 32?

Campbell Heath - bottom aged light bodied, tall left foot mid

Michael Still - bottom age key forward

    Thankfully, way off.

    5. Who should he have picked at 31 & 32?

Tom Allwright - Tasmanian inside mid with rowing background

    Michael Still

    6. Who will be the first recycled player to be picked up?

    Josh Carr

    Wrong

    7. What will be the big story of the draft?

Cousins to Brisbane, but falls out with Voss 4 days later and leaves the club.

I was half right, Cousins not getting picked up was sort of it.
Well, I think I did OK...

    How did everyone else go?

    14. Bulldogs - Cordy
    15. Geelong - McKernan
    16. Hawthorn - Schoenmaker

    2. Who will be the big bolter in the draft?
    O’Keefe, Schoenmaker, S. Wright

    3. Who will be the big slider?
    Blease, Lisle, Robinson

    4. Who will Clayton pick at 31 & 32?
Someone really skinny like Tom Hill and another kid who has been playing school footy somewhere that no-one else has ever heard of.

    5. Who should he have picked at 31 & 32?
Jordon Roughead and Michael Still / Mitch Brown / Nathan O’Keefe

    6. Who will be the first recycled player to be picked up?
    Chris Johnson by Carlton

    7. What will be the big story of the draft?
Hawthorn have become so arrogant that they pass on their 1st pick because they don’t need any more players or Trengove cries when Adelaide calls his name out and refuses to go to Adelaide.

    8. What will Clayton say to the media about his selections?
"We rated them both as top 10 picks".
"He has that unique combination of pace and endurance".
"He’s very bottom age and although he’s light we see him as a long term prospect".
    1. 12 out of 16 first rounders

    2. Schoenmakers goes 1st round and Sam Wright goes at 27.

    3. Lisle drops to 50 and Robinson 40.

    4. Ye of little faith.

    5. Roughy, you beauty! I was on the right track for 32 as well, I even picked Jones in the other thread.

    6. Nope, have to wait for the PSD.

7 & 8. The rest were all taking the piss.

    Re: 2008 Draft Challenge

    Well that was a disaster.

Of my entire phantom draft I had these happen:
Exactly right (player and exact pick):

    Jack Watts (Melb. 1)
    Nicholas Naitanui (WCE. 2)
    Stephen Hill (Freo. 3)
    Lewis Johnston (Sydney. 12)
    Ayce Cordy (WBulldogs. 14)

    Respectable (right club wrong pick):
Hayden Ballantyne (Freo. 21) (I picked him way down at 68)
Zach Clarke (Freo. 37) (I picked him for them at 77)

Brackets I (Player in brackets got drafted at that nominated pick)(a=First choice was already gone):
    Chris Yarran (Carlton. 6) (a)
    Phil Davis (Adelaide. 10)
    Steele Sidebottom (Collingwood. 11)
    Nick Suban (Freo. 24)
    Luke Rounds (Collingwood. 46) (a)
    Leigh Brown (Collingwood. 73)

Brackets II (Player in brackets got drafted to club but wrong pick nominated):
    James Strauss (Melb. 19)
    Chris Hall (Freo. 77)

Of the first round I got 12/16. My smoky of Robinson was an epic fail, finishing 30 picks lower, while Swift and Mckernan fell out, and Trengove unexpectantly dropped. 56 of the players I picked were drafted.

Well he turned out to be a slider. Bugger.

    3. Who will be the big slider?
Sidebottom is in my draft, but I hope Schoenmakers slides all the way to pick 31.
Went at 11 and 16. Sidebottom didn't slide and Schoenmakers may have even gone higher than expected

    4. Who will Clayton pick at 31 & 32?
O'Keefe and Schoenmakers if available, otherwise any of the players I mentioned.
Completely wrong. Clayton didn't so much look at my nominated players.

Nope. Hislop was first. None of the clubs mentioned wanted Davenport.

    7. What will be the big story of the draft?
Rich at pick 5. Naitanui falls down the stairs on his way in to Telstra Dome.
Rich went even later, which was probably the biggest story (there wasn't much else to write about. Naitanui didn't fall down the stairs.

    8. What will Clayton say to the media about his selections?
"We feel *insert name* has a lot of upside and could well be an important part of the Western Bulldogs forwardline in 3 years alongside players like Grant and Boumann"
"Very glad he slipped this far"
    Both attempts are wrong.
What a pitiful attempt. I hang my head in shame.

Completely out on my picks - except I did rate Yarran a lot higher than most of you guys, except he went to Carlton not Essendon.
