I don't think it's that bad all things considered. We had 2 consecutive years of 28K when we finished 3rd and we've surpassed that in an expected rebuild season with just under 30K. It's not a figure you can brag about but at least it's something we can work with when the team starts to develop.

Glass half full tastes better than a half empty one.

That's the way I see it too. Our membership peaked at around 34K while playing consecutive prelim finals, and has only dropped 5K while we're rock bottom. That's only 15% which is actually excellent.

Richmond look like playing finals this year and they're about to hit 60,000 and estimate with regular finals appearances can hit 70K, yet 4-5 years ago they just cracked 30K. If our membership fluctuated by 50-60% dependent on our on field results like theirs we'd be long out of business.
