Dogs to wait on Murphy, Biggs
The Western Bulldogs could welcome back Bob Murphy and Shane Biggs this week if they pass fitness tests, but will be without ruckman Tom Campbell for at least another week.
Murphy injured his hamstring at training last week and subsequently missed Friday night’s clash with Adelaide, but Head Physiotherpist Chris Bell said he’ll be assessed later in the week before being made available for selection.
‘’Bob Murphy suffered some minor hamstring tightness while reaching for a ball during the main training session last week. It’s the opposite side to what he injured a month ago,’’ Bell told westernbulldogs.com.au
“We’re going to take absolutely no risk with Bob and make sure he’s pristine before we put him back into full training.
“We’ll assess him this week to see if he’s in line with that and if he completes full training he’ll come back in line with availability.”
Similarly, Shane Biggs could return to full training this week, and potentially be in the frame for selection if he recovers from a calf complaint, according to Bell.
“Shane suffered some calf tightness during the main training session last week,” he said.
“He’s improved over the weekend and we’ll go through our process with Shane this week to determine if he returns to some full training this week. If he completes full training he’ll be back in line for availability.”
Unfortunately, the news isn’t as promising for Tom Campbell who’ll miss at least the next fortnight due to an abdominal strain suffered during the Club’s Round 15 game against West Coast.
Bell said he’ll be managed conservatively.
“He’s just resumed some running but will be expected to get back into some main training in the next one to two weeks.”

Bad news about Lynch
Stringer sidelined, Boyd a chance for Cairns return
Western Bulldogs forward Jake Stringer will miss at least a fortnight of football with a hamstring strain, the Club today confirmed.
Stringer could be seen reaching for his left hamstring during the second quarter in the Club’s 20-point win over the Blues.
The 23-year-old left the ground and didn’t return
“We’ve assessed Jake today and can confirm he does have a hamstring strain,” Head Physiotherapist Chris Bell told westernbulldogs.com.au.
“We’re going to put a structure around Jake but at this stage, we imagine he will miss the next two to three games of football.”
Veteran defender Matthew Boyd missed the weekend’s game with an achilles complaint but could still come into the selection frame for the Club’s trip to Cairns according to Bell.
“Matthew Boyd pulled up with some achilles soreness following the heavy, wet deck in Adelaide, he said.
“He’s continued to improve this week and we’ll wait to the back end of this week to make a decision on his availability.”
Both Tom Campbell and Josh Dunkley have returned to training following an abdominal strain and shoulder reconstruction respectively, with Campbell inching closer to a return.
“Tom has started to turn the corner following his abdominal tendon sprain which is really good to see, Bell said.
“We’ll look to progress Tom over the next two to three weeks to get him back into availability.”
However midfielder Brad Lynch looks set for an extended stint on the sidelines after injuring a hamstring in the VFL on the weekend.
“I’ve assessed Brad today and can confirm he does have a moderate grade hamstring injury, Bell said.
“Since he’s the type of athlete that involves a lot of high speed with his game, we’re going to have to be really careful with Brad’s reload and at this stage I’m anticipating that he’ll miss the next 6-7 weeks of footy.”

Morris in for surgery
Western Bulldogs defender Dale Morris has undergone surgery on a broken radius bone in his forearm the Club confirmed today.
Morris suffered the injury during the second quarter of Saturday’s clash with the Gold Coast in Cairns, with head physiotherapist Chris Bell telling westernbulldogs.com.au that the 34-year-old will could miss up to two months of football with the injury.
“In the second quarter of the game on the weekend Dale Morris fell really heavily on his right arm,” Bell said.
“X-rays confirmed post game that Dale fractured the radius bone in his forearm. Dale’s gone in for surgery this afternoon to have a plate and screws put into that fracture site to realign it and at this stage we’re guessing that Dale’s going to miss the next six to eight weeks of footy.”
Lin Jong and Roarke Smith, however, are making good progress as they both recover from ACL injuries according to Bell.
“Both of our ACL boys are making really good progress,” he said.
“Jongy’s back into some strengthening around his knee and has started some bike riding and Roarke has ticked off some early stages of his rehab and has progressed to outside running which is really exciting.”

Re: Injury List - 2017 Season
Scans have confirmed that first year ruckman Tim English has avoided any serious damage to his face after a heavy collision in the VFL on the weekend, according to Western Bulldogs head physiotherapist Chris Bell.
English didn’t return after halftime following a heavy knock during Footscray’s loss to Williamstown on Saturday, but Bell said the news is good 19-year-old.
"Scans yesterday confirmed that Tim avoided any serious or structural damage to his face," Bell said.
"[He] will join back into full training this week and is expected to be available this weekend."
The news is also positive for forward Jake Stringer, who’s set to return to the training track as he recovers from a hamstring injury suffered against Carlton in Round 17.
"Jake is making some fantastic progress in the recovery following his hamstring injury, and is expected to resume full training next week," Bell said.
It’s also good news for Josh Dunkley, Fergus Greene and Patrick Lipinski, who are all likely to return to play this weekend.
First year players Greene and Lipinski have recovered from wrist and hamstring ailments respectively, while Dunkley will be available for selection for the first time since Round 7, Bell said.
"Josh has shown great progress following his should reconstruction," he said.
"He’s back into some full training this week, he’s ticked all of our strength and contact measures and we expect Josh to be available this weekend."

Re: Injury List - 2017 Season
I wonder how Tom is travelling , he is still training isn't he?
I guess the one good thing about his problem is his body is ready to go,once his mind is right he could be back any week.

Resumed training July 11, will play VFL in 2-3 weeks
If you kicked five goals and Tom Boyd kicked five goals, Tom Boyd kicked more goals than you.

Ch10 tonight saying Adams joining the main group 'very soon' and Tom Boyd could be 2 weeks away.
