The story behind the Tigers team song
To the Richmond faithful, it's the greatest theme song in the world — and when it's sung with passion, as it was at the MCG last weekend, it's hard to disagree.
Oh We're From Tigerland entered the iTunes Top 50 this week as fans downloaded it ahead of the Tigers' first grand final appearance since 1980.
The words of the song were penned by cabaret performer Jack Malcomson during a plane trip in 1962.
But the story behind the tune — a song called Row Row Row from the 1912 season of US variety show The Ziegfeld Follies — is less well known to footy fans.

The fight is here; I need ammunition, not a ride.

Re: The story behind the Tigers team song
I may be on my Pat Malone, but I hate the song. Aside from "those" three words, which is all people seem to repeat, it's just another footy song IMO.

I like the Swan's song better. The bit about Shaking Down ?The Thunder FromThe Skies is better.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

'Shake down the thunder from the sky' is a ripper of a line.
Still love the Tigers song though.

And "while her loyal sons are marching onwards to vic-toreeee" is a good finish too.

As a 'war cry' its probably the most intimidating song.

I love the Tigers song.
Most team songs are good but this one is a belter.

It's got the little banjo break too. Every great song has a banjo break.
I'm struggling to think of another one but I'm sure that's right.

Kids love Tigers, and the song is interactive with the Yellow and Black yelled out.

Re: The story behind the Tigers team song
Apart from our song I only like Fitzroy's sung to the music of the French National Anthem and Carlton's for its use of the old idiom "we'll keep our end up".

You only have to change a few words of most club songs to get opposition supporters riled. They don't even have to be rude. Try singing "oh, the premiership is a pipedreamfor the good old Collingwood" and see what colour Collingwood supporters go.
