What a gun he was. It was a pleasure to go to the footy each week just to see what Doug would do.
Not so much a speccy taker but Jim Edmond had the safest set of hands I have ever seen. He was so good at owning the space where the ball dropped and had such massive hands that it was pretty much impossible for an opposition player to spoil the ball. It was almost like he had his very own bucket to catch the ball in.
Jock was good but Fossie's hands were like 2 big velcro pads.

Dunno if he got to the wedding or not.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Remember him playing forward late in his career. Had a super football IQ.
Leon Cameron played on him when Doug played his first (practice) game for Fitzroy at Whitten Oval. Apparently Leon sauntered up to the Hawk and said 'so, what are your plans for the rest of the afternoon old timer" it was the first time that Leon had played on a HBF and halfway through the first half after he'd got a few touches he ran past Doug and yelled "This is an easy position to play I wish they'd moved me here years ago."
