At least Powell doesn't play for the Swans. Would have been totes awks if he was wearing a Qatar Airways sponsored jumper at the time of his homophobic comment.

I see the frustration and completely agree that education shouldn't be needed...but that is a societal problem as much as an AFL problem. There are lots of areas that society, and in particular straight white men, need to be better at - but that 24yo young man might have a father, uncle, coach who thinks that c********r is a perfectly reasonable thing to call someone else. When that has been your whole life, it would be hard to change, and you would need education and support to see the error (with a high likelihood that he will instead choose to believe that he is the victim and listen to more Andrew Tate).

It's a shitty world we're living in, where a lot of people still see others as less than them.

Yes I agree. The persistence of family violence despite well meaning emphases on “respect” tells us that these things run deep. I guess I just get annoyed when it’s like “ education” is going to introduce some new concept that has never before been discussed or considered.

I think the education component we are speaking of here involves water boarding and sensory deprivation at first, then progressively more brutal education techniques until he finally thinks the way that we specify he should think and only uses words and phrases that we will allow him to use.

Be patient people. It takes time.. But they all break in the end. Oops! Sorry, great leader I got distracted I will bring your pipe and slippers and DEI manual immediately.

What did everyone think of the Luke Parker suspension? I think 6 weeks is about right but it was a sickening bump.

Obviously I have only see footage on TV but I am amazed that the bump caused so much harm.
Parker seemed to brace for a shepherd. Why was the Frankston player so unaware of his presence.

It kind of reminded me of the Gia on Kosi bump where Kosi wasn't looking and had zero awareness, Parker just didn't need to do it, and i couldn't believe the Swans argument that Luke had stopped, well he kind of did but he still picked him off as the player was simply jogging and wasn't even in the contest, 5 or 6 was about right.

    Are you for serious?

The ball was about ten metres away after it had rolled directly in front of him. Why would the guy expect contact or need to be looking for him?

    Parker sniped him.

    Re: Tribunal / suspensions 2024

The Harrison Jones tackle suspension was another stinker. Fisher's momentum, and his knee digging in to the turf, created the minimal force. Grading something as medium impact because it has 'potential to cause injury' but grading other acts such as punching a face based on the level of injury actually sustained is so inconsistent it is laughable.

But at least they are consistent in being hopelessly inconsistent.

Fair enough, but I'd watch it again. Dog act.

Apparently Nathan Buckley asked the following questions

Luke Parker is a hardened AFL footballer playing against, with all due respect, amateur footballers (some more so than others)

Is he responsible for the lack of awareness of his opposition that contributes to the impact of the football action?

While it aligns somewhat with Bulldog Joe's observation I don't think it should all fall on the player who was focused on the footy.
The ball had passed Parker and he wasn't focused on it

The reason why Parker copped such a harsh sentence is because Smith was completely out of the contest and had zero reason to expect to be cleaned up.

Exactly this. Why the hell should he be expecting contact at that point?

Buckley is an idiot for saying that.
