Re: Lin Jong ready to take Ryan Griffen’s midfield spot at Western Bulldogs

Being the romantic that I am, I absolutely love this story. Jong is smart enough to see the opportunity fate has presented to him and he is driven enough, and prepared through hard work enough to take it. We are a club embodying the cliche this year of needing a hero. Stringer, Boyd, Bonti, Jong, Talia, all these guys have a real shot this season of being that hero and “uniting the clans”.

Jong is the player I really hopes steps up another level this season. While it's a great story to see him work his way on to a senior list I think he has some of those unpredictable skills that we need. Today is just a first step towards establishing himself as a senior footballer.

If Jong and Redpath can be good players it will be a massive bonus.

He's had a fantastic start to the year, a stellar preseason and was very good last night. He has been overlooked a bit given the meteoric rise of Bont and Macrae and the talent of Stringer up forward but there was one pattern of play last night where he broke out of congestion , exploded along the outer wing, spotted up Crameri 25 metres out and hit him up beautifully at full tilt slightly around his body. I knew then and there that he was AFL quality and now wonder just how good he can be.
But then again, I'm an Internet poster and Bevo is a premiership coach so draw your own conclusions.

Both Jong and Bonti were a little disappointing in the first half with only 8 touches each and not much influence on the game, but really came home when it counted in the second half. Jong still needs to work on his skills as there were quiet a few clangers but overall he has improved vastly and will only get better and better.
