Great to see the top 3 are kids not the same old players.
Looks like the changing of the guard is taking effect.

Good work Tom Liberatore. Hasn't even played 20 games yet.

Does anyone know if he has leadership qualities, besides his output on the ground?

Tom's a pretty quiet unassuming kid. I wouldn't call him a natural born leader but he certainly leads by example and has his head screwed on right.

Can he be a future leader? Absolutely but at the moment he'll only want to focus on his footy.

I have heard Wallis is a natural born leader, just needs to improve his footy a bit and he maybe one in the future.

I think Minson has been our best player this season, even though Griffen is still leading.

Higgins on 1 vote would have to be most alarming, and yet not surprising.

The thing I find most interesting is that Dahlhaus is 11 votes ahead of Wallis in the Marmo, but behind him in the James. I guess it says that his good games have been more heavily rewarded, but Wallis has been more consistent of the young players.

I think its a bit surprising that Higgins hasn't polled more over the past 3 or 4 weeks. He has certainly been one of our better players during the period of the Brisbane/Essendon/Freo period.

Whereas the coach/ coaching staff have Boyd our best player by the length of the Flemington straight.... If we can use the coaches votes as a guide where Boyd was sitting 4th before the Fremantle game... we even managed to give him 3 votes against Essendon.

I thought he was close to our best against Brisbane, but agree most of the other games he's been solid without being great.

Ozza

Thought he was our best versus Brisbane and at least amongst the best half dozen in both of the other two games. I think I had him as a 2 voter v Freo - and unlucky to miss v Essendon.

The Bulldogs Bite
11-07-2012, 04:26 PM
I've given him a couple of votes too, and his year hasn't been terrible, but I think that also can be attributed to the fact that our expectations for Higgins have been raised dramatically low.

Maddog37

I think Higgins is only now starting to show a little spark and vigour. If he can get through the rest of the year and another preseason injury free he will be on the right path.

I understand that. Just suggesting that Dahl's good games are getting more 4's and 3's in the Marmo, whereas Wallis is playing at a more consistent level (amongst the young players) and therefore getting more 2's in the James.

The big question is , can Dahlhaus win both awards.

I think the bigger question is can Dahlhaus win the Marmo but lose the James? Wallis just always seems to be able to snag a vote in the James.

I hope for Willbur's sake he takes this one out. He's been so far and away our best (and most consistent) player it's not even a comparison.

As always BB, a great effort in administering the vote counting. I would imagine it would take a bit of time sifting through everyones posts. It certainly is a great reference point throughout the season and certainly does provide a lot of debate around who did and didn't play well. :)

A side note, good on Wallis for putting in a consistent season.

Does anyone have any comments on how things finished in the eyes of the Woofers?
Imagine you were shown this at the start of the year.......

Personally I have mixed emotions. Great to see some youngsters up there but them being ahead of Cross, Higgins etc. would of had me worried.

BB - Thanks !

The reversal of position in the Marmo and the James for Dahlhaus and Wallis is interesting. It would seem to indicate that when Dahlhaus got James votes he also got Marmo votes as one of the best four Dogs on the ground. Whereas Wallis appears to have picked up a lot of votes when he wasn't all that good, but was still the best of the Pups playing.

This is not meant as a criticism of the awards, simply an observation.
