I don't believe our match will be on free to air. Obviously it will be on Fox Footy but not everyone had Foxtel. Pretty much if you don't have Foxtel you'll have to tune in on the radio or find a live stream from somewhere.

Of course it's on Foxtel like all our games are. I have this Telstra crap and I don't get to see it until 4AM the next day. Yeah this new TV rights deal is great for the every day consumer.

That's annoying because you would like to think the new TV rights deal benefits everyone as the AFL says but from what your saying G-Mo77 it clearly doesnt.

I thought Higgins was an ideal sub, let the game slow down and him to come on for a burst.

I too thought it would be better if Higgins was the Sub again , he might be named as a forward but he will spend a lot of time in the midfield

I actually don,t like the idea of Libba as the Sub he's a confidence player who likes to get his hands dirty from the get go , Austin is straight in for Hargrave and will probably slot in at CHB

It's mindboggling. We're so slow moving it, as soon as GWS go forward they have open space and people leading into it. We have no run, no movement. Our pressure and skill isn't good enough.

One of the worst quarters we've played in my years against a side we should account for comfortably.

8 goal quarter much better effort ... But our skill level is deplorable ... We don't trust our first instinct, which means we get caught way too often. This tells me the players still don't understand the new game plan being instilled by the new coaches. The players are second guessing themselves and not playing instinctively.

No doubt, he's got just about the most unenviable role in the AFL at the moment, but his positioning and leading has been a concern. He's not really on a world-beating opponent today either, Davis is going to be a good player, but he's still a kid at the moment.

Ward only took his eyes off the ball at the last second when Luke came into his vision. At this point he went no harder then you would expect a player in his position to go. The incident was made to look worse by Luke's leg action.

Dahlhouse is excluded from this, but we seriously do not have a potential match winner in our side. there is nobody on our list who even looks like becoming a superstar. Some honest tryers yes, but matchwinners? No.

Continuing to persist with known spuds on our list isnt going to get us anywhere, lets just hope the massive broom sweeps through ASAP. Its time to play Hill, Talia, Campbell etc. because we cannot play any worse than we already are. We have nothing to lose and only to gain, these kids need game time. Grant, Addison, Higgins etc do not. (as well as the other list cloggers; hooper, mulligan, moles etc)

I nearly smashed my TV when this happened. It was very very annoying to see picken attempt to play on boundary side when settling was clearly the best option.

Lake struggled today, as did a lot of our players. He's coming from a long way back mentally, though I hope it will only take a couple of good games strung together to get him back in to some form.

That is the part of his game he needs to get better in. If he does get better at his kicking he will be a great player. I said in a post a while back that he is very much like Travis Cloke in that his kicking also isn't crash hot but his marking is very good.

On a slightly serious note though, I think the drastic drop off in skill we are seeing this year is in large part due to the emphasis of getting bodies around the ball. The congestion close in makes clean handling and use difficult. I suspect though that this is something BMac is happy to accept, because the pressure it brings though ugly, once learnt will mean that the opposition will have to play at a similar intensity in order to compete.

There's a fair few people of this opinion, but I'm very wary of this kind of approach.

Strong teams are built by rewarding form, not just playing all the kids. Josh Kennedy said he had noticed that at Sydney no one gets brought into the side unless they have been knocking the door down.

Contrast this with Melbourne who got rid of their leaders and have struggled with a list of kids who should be much better. It took them 4 weeks to finally start playing at the required intensity, as opposed to us who have at least been playing intense footy for most of the season so far (with the exception of large chunks of the Saints game).

Once someone has done enough to be promoted, they need to be given 3-4 games to prove themselves. But it generally does the kids no good to give them a game when they haven't been playing at a high enough level to deserve it. Let them show they are good enough and then back them in, rather than putting them in too early and letting them be smashed and turned into the new scapegoats. Moreover, Addison has been our best defender so far this year, while Grant has been showing some good signs and Higgins had a decent-ish game.

Lake was ok today with 22 disposals, some nice run and carry and some good marking. The ball didn't travel much into the GWS forward line after quarter time so Lake, Murphy didn't have much to do.

Didn't rate Lake's game at all, happy with the stats for SC purposes but thought he was quite poor overall. He's got to do more considering he's the leader down back.

This was a really tough game to sit through. I actually forced myself to sit there and watch the whole game yesterday I would have been better off doing something else. I hope it's just the case of a poor team dragging us down to their level but we're not that great anyway. :o

It's going to be tough sitting at the Dome Friday night. I think it's going to be a really long night.

My point is that GWS only had 37 inside 50's, ie 9 per quarter and Lake had 22 disposals or almost 6 per quarter, so he repelled most of their attacks. (in theory, some disposals were gained outside their 50).

Agree Lakes first quarter was poor, but after that he was ok.

As for Friday night, I may end up leaving mid way through the last quarter, something I have never done:o

Just two and a bit years ago we were on opposite sides of the Prelim draw from the Pies and should have made the GF while they were losing to Geelong. Just a year and a bit ago we were again on either side of the Prelim draw, only this time they actually made it past Geelong while we once again fell down to the Saints.

How do we go from that to 18 months later and we're scared shitless that they'll kick a cricket score against us?

I'm still baffled by how quickly we've fallen off the pace.

You shouldn't be - we've traded so many draft picks for players over the past few years and, whilst some were good for a couple of years (Hall, Akermanis, the Beard) we have received very little return from our "mature" traded players this this year. If we had kept all of our picks and instead drafted 18 year olds I'll bet we would be in much better shape this year. We gambled and lost.

A lot changes in two years though.

West Coke couldn't even beat themselves; now they are the best side in the competition.

We were 'up' for a while and weren't good enough. Time to rebuild for another (and hopefully better) crack at it in 3 or so years time.
