Test your memories. Which players can you recall wearing a helmet in a match?

Just a few:

Chris Grant, Micheal McKenna, Justin Madden, Phil Narkle, Nathan Burke & John Hutton.

Jason Dunstall wore that thing that held his brain in while he played for a while.

Yup, he did!

He was about two foot taller and twice the size than almost evreyone else. The only thing that was in any danger of causing him head trauma were migriting birds.

Gray Wilson! All time great, also think that another bloke at Fitzroy at the time was Chris Hanson, but why does the name Leigh Murnane jump out at me?

With a beard, he looked dog ugly in that thing.

That's strange. A helmet covering most of my head improves my looks.

IIRC Richard Osborne wore a helmet for a while after that head collision he had playing for Sydney, does anyone else remember the Ambulance driving onto the SCG?

I remember seeing him start to convulse.

Chris Smith wore a helmet for Fitzroy back in the early 80's. He almost won the 1980 Brownlow and wasn't even invited to the count.

Anyone have any special Mick McKenna memories they want to share? ;)

I'm sure I've read somewhere about a poor umpiring decision involving him, just can't quite remember what it was.

Yep...he certainly wore one a few times. I remember watching a game on Fox Footy from the mid 80's and the good old # 10 was dashing out of the back pocket with a helmet on.

So Carl doesn't have to repeat it.
In Sydney before we ever won up there. Not sure which year and in about the same spot on the ground where LRT punctured Skipper's lung. MM has the ball is knocked out in a head high tackle but is done for holding the ball.????
Umpiring is the single worse aspect of our national game and has been so for a long time.

You forgot the bit about the broken jaw.

And not actually being conscious at the time he was pinged.
