McMahon to be traded? (http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,25197,22475548-5012432,00.html)

THE AUSTRALIAN - 25 SEPTEMBER

'Collingwood's first realistic live target, the Western Bulldogs, said their first selection, No5, would not be used for trading in players, whether it be Fraser or Melbourne's out-of-contract forward Russell Robertson.

The Bulldogs are also unlikely to be interested in Fraser as they are dealing with Adelaide to secure disgruntled Crows ruckman Ben Hudson.

Hudson wants to return to Victoria and the Dogs are prepared to offer him a three-year contract to replace the retired Luke Darcy.

The Crows are understood to be seeking a draft selection for Hudson, but so far the Bulldogs have baulked at anything but the straight swap of running defender Jordan McMahon, who is out of favour at Whitten Oval. '

I'd be disappointed in this unless there was something thrown in by Adelaide to even it up.

That would be a poor outcome for us.

Agree, even with the unwritten rule that you pay more for a big man I still think McMahon holds more value than Hudson. Would be extremely disappointed if it was a straight swap only.

I agree. Huddo will be a good acquistion fo us, but McMahon is a very valuable player - his first 6 games this year were sensational. Letting him go for an aging player is just plain sily. Lets hope the silly season doesn't yeild some of the absurdities whcih have been thrown up.

Anything less than Hudson + 2nd rounder will be a loss for us.

Its ashame he wants out but Everitt, Gilbee and Griffen could more than cover for him.

Across half-back, certainly, but Jordy has plenty to offer as a winger. I'd much rather Jordy than Eagle.

I think more to the point: It is almost now official Jordy wants to go home. At least the rumour is gaining momentum now. So we could get bent over just as hard as the crows could get bent over with Hudson. I think McMahon is worth more then Hudson, but maybe the straight swap is a way of playing fair game. If he wants to go, he wants to go, and we are in better situation now with Hudson then we would have been if no Adelaide player wanted to come our way.

True.

Maybe we could package in Hudson + Mattner for Jordy and a 2nd or 3rd rounder. IIRC Mattner had a terrific 2006 playing on the wing but this year Craig moved him to the backline where he had no impact and got dropped. He would be good value to us if we used him on the wing and would offer alot more than Eagle would.

I guess what you are saying is right enough...one question is going to be do the Power want Jordy and is there a bit of a buyers market for him?

I guess the answer is probably 'No', and a one-for-one swap where both players get what they want is probably as fair as anything else I could come up with.

(All this assumes he wants to go of course).

Not for Mattner, please! No borgy, no. Haha.

Very sad to hear that McMahon wants to leave, if this article in fact has any bearing on the truth, who knows. If we are demanding a straight swap for McMahon = Hudson, I'm not too sure I'm happy about that either. Given Jordan's age, experience and obvious talent, wouldn't we be paying over the odds?

Trade week is going to be an interesting one for the Dogs again.

Most of these articles are written after having a bit of a word with the club and then surfing Big Footy

- so a bulldogs person says we will not be trading pick #5
- and BigFooty is hysterical about trade possibilities

McMahon for Hudson doesn't sit well with me - Im inclined to think if we trade McMahon it is a failing of our club that we could not teach someone so naturally talented - or its an absolute indictment of McMahon that he wont consistently do what he is asked.

Any chance of picking up Luke jeriocho ? Young kid can't get a game because of guys like burton, petrie, scott welsh and nick gill ahead of him . Next year he will have to contend hentchel coming back. A young forward with a big body. He could be a good pack buster. Just needs to bring the ball down, as we got the crumbers already.

What about messen , the young ruck who wants to come back to melbourne.

I wonder if the coach wants to trade him or he just wants to head home? Its a bit of a worry that we have so many players from interstate, look at Judd, could set a trend.

We need more the just Hudson for McMahon.

Be very disappointed to see McMahon go and still hope he won't.

All seems like it might be a pretty big trade-period for us and I'm interested (in a nervous kinda way) to see what Eade does.

Indeed, an interesting trade week lies ahead. But it seems un-stopable McMahon is returning to Adelaide and as you've all said, i hope its more than just Hudson. Could be something like a 3way deal where we get Collingwoods first pick aswell *shrugs*

I know that a lot of this is rumour and hearsay, but does anyone else get the feeling there might be a few established players on the move. I get the feeling Rocket's "mad as hell and he's not gonna take it anymore". I'm not overly rapt with the idea of McMahon for Hudson and like Raw Toast, I'm a little nervous about what's to come.

I'd hate to see McMahon go, he's had one bad year after a great start, but that doesn't mean he'll be like that next year, unless it's his own decision to go back home which puts us in a bad situation as far as his value. But if we were to trade him for Hudson we'd definitely need something else, Jordy has a lot of footy left, while Hudson's only going to give us about 3 years anyway.

Can you have too many players with terrific pace and skills? I think I know what you mean but McMahon was brilliant early in the season and I think we need to try and keep him. He hasn't played his best footy yet.

Trade him while he still has currency, we have two many jordan mcmahons at the dogs.

Name them?

We have Jordie and Gilbee who can play as specialist HBF who deliver well to the forward line and burn the opposition.

At the moment we have Everitt and Griffen who can play HBF, but neither would be expecting to spend their career there.

Who else is there? And I'm talking quality.
