COLLINGWOOD has decided to suspend Brownlow Medallist Dane Swan over a night on the town last Sunday.

It is believed the Magpies will ban Swan from their next two matches,
against the Sydney Swans and North Melbourne.

A Magpies player challenged Swan about his condition at training on
Monday, and a meeting with coach Nathan Buckley and at least two other
players followed.

Recently, the club's players pledged to refrain from drinking alcohol
until the end of the season.

Swan is understood to have denied drinking alcohol on Sunday night,
admitting he went out but only consumed water before getting home at
midnight.

Collingwood officials could not be contacted.

In all seriousness we have flowm under the radar again.

A coach was sacked on the same day and now this.

The media don't and haven't gone hard on this at all.

Why is that?

I think his age and last name have played a part . I think the Liberatore name is so synonymous with 100% commitment to footy that this incident is being perceived as a one off error of judgement for an otherwise highly committed young player.

It's interesting you say that. I think commercial realities are more prevalent though, and family traits don't come into it. Libba senior has been an easy target for the media for a while now, if we were playing out the season for a spot in the top four the club would be under a lot more scrutiny.

It's probably a good thing in some ways Tom plays for us, rather than a side that has any hope of being competitive from a finals perspective. Or one that is slightly important with respect to media exposure.

Yep, no one cares. Even Smorgon has come out and said the reason that he's not heard much this season is because no one is coming to get comments from him anymore.

So does this mean that the Pies have leadership issues?

They have some sort of a problem every year someone seems to do something at it appears to be the same blokes. Didak, Shaw, Swan, Wellingham and even Maxwell.
But they are still getting the job done on the field though.

It is a totally different response to the whole Minson affair.

Exactly. I feel like a lot of people take off field issues = bad leadership far too seriously.

The fact that one of his teammates questioned his condition on the track is a sign of good leadership isn't it? Also too, the fact he is their top shelf player, but doesn't get an easy out.

What a load of rubbish this is.
Loss of respect because he had a drink? More likely cos of stupid beanie he wore.
They have 6 day rule. Lucky he doesn't play with us as we always have 6 day breaks.

I'd have thought good leadership will realise that people are not robots and everyone is different.

The team made a pack to not drink, he broke the team rules so he is out. Pretty simple.
