47 is a new club record. Did it against fantastic opposition too. Well done, a shining light

He is an A Grader in the AFL.

Gobsmacked by his game today. I don't think we've seen that Griffen all season. I'm glad he's still got it in him.

In some aspects he certainly is. I get disappointed the way he often misses goals he should be able to convert.

Do agree with this. Although I think it is a Club wide trait, which never gets much attention. Was even fobbed off by the Club this year.

That aside, Griffen is an A grader, no doubt. He was great in a season where the team started to crumble, has been OK in a very poor team this year.

After the first 5 or so games this year i was adament Griffen was among the competitions best. Since then he has been pretty disappointing.

Then he goes out and does that! Wow!

I wish he wanted to be captain.

I would love to see Griff do that most weeks in a season and am afraid it may never happen. The only shot he's got at becoming a consistent gun is if Libba, Wallis, Dahl, Smith (or other yet to be drafted mids) can develop their games to such a degree that Griff can get off the chain once in a while. In the current phase the team is in, he is destined to struggle for consistency when the opposition exclusively try to shut him (and only him) out. I want this to happen in the next 2 seasons as that will be Griffs absolute prime....
fingers and toes crossed!!!

You might change your tune in a couple of seasons when Boyd steps down.

Amazing what a week's rest can do for a player. While he still had some issues in penetrating with his kicks, his energy through his core demonstrated by his ability to stand up in tackles and drag players with him was something I've never seen from him.

Wallis can be captain. If GWS can appoint younger ones, why can't we?

He was an unbelievable ball magnet, in the days when diposals were hard to get:

Best was 46

43 disps (20 kicks 23 hballs) and a goal in Rd 3 43-pt loss to Fremantle at Western Oval (15 Apr 1995)
45 disps (30 kicks 15 hballs) in Rd 17 13-pt win over St Kilda at Moorabbin Oval (11 Jul 1992)
46 disps (29 kicks 17 hballs), 4 marks and 2 goals in Rd 12 62-pt win over Fitzroy at Princes Park (6 Jun 1992)
39 disps (19 kicks 20 hballs), 3 marks and a goal in Rd 11 34-pt win over Hawthorn at Western Oval (31 May 1992)
35 disps (19 kicks 16 hballs), 4 marks and 3 goals in Rd 5 39-pt win over North Melbourne at the MCG (18 Apr 1992)
38 disps (21 kicks 17 hballs) and a goal in Rd 15 46-pt win over Essendon at Western Oval (29 Jun 1991)
41 disps (20 kicks 21 hballs), 3 marks and a goal in Rd 22 21-pt win over Brisbane at Western Oval (1 Sep 1990)

Hardly got a brownlow vote in his career. The best was 8 in 1991.

Above is a link to the all of (most of) Griffens touches.

The part that really stands out now, is that he got them in all areas of the ground.

I wonder how much ground KM wise he covered?

And a rare case of us recruiting the better brother.

What stood out for me was how he was struggling for support and often had nobody to give the ball to.
