Koops, Everitt & Sherman look a bit silly now don't they.

Everitt should have been pick 111.

He was horrible for Sydney on Friday night.

I don't really like grading trades on who was taken with the pick traded but the Koops one was horrible. Pick 19 for him? Yikes!

Sherman we got redfaced on no matter which way you paint it.

Looking at Sydney's record, being that they seem to easily win in every trade for 10 years, I hope we don't trade with them ever again!

We nailed them on the Barry Hall trade, however circumtances were in our favour.

My understanding is a little different based on the alleged negotiations the year before on this trade. Hall the year before might have been the difference. Who knows... It didnt change anything though.

As in they wanted a first round pick the previous year?

I guess we will never know.

Yep. What a lose/lose non trade.

They would have got Roughy or Jones with our 2nd rounder and not had Hall nearly kill someone out of the frustration of being here one year too long. (They got the pick next year used on Harwood). And We would have had a massive chance against the Aints in the prelim.

I guess Ayce Cordy was far too much to give up (at the time).

Lose/lose.

Kennedy is elite but McGlynn is overrated - Puopolo was far more effective in the same role on Friday night. And Hawthorn ended up with a 10 year key defender out of that trade. Swans win in the trade but not by anywhere near as much as is made out.

Richmond:

Nathan Brown (6 Kepler Bradley & 20 Sam Butler)
Troy Simonds (Aaron Fiora)
Pat Bowden (56 Joel Patful)
Graham Polak, 13 Jack Riewoldt & 63 (Tyson Goldsack) (8 Ben Reid, 42 Bacher Houli)
Mitch Morton (35 Sam Reid Sydney)
Jordan McMahon (19 Callan Ward)
Adam Thomson (42 Mitch Banner)
Hiatus
Steven Morris & 15 Brandon Ellis (14 Devon Smith)
Shaun Grigg (Andy Collins)
Ivan Maric (37 Jack Newnes)
Aaron Edwards (74 pass)

Not including PSD (i.e. Cousins, Lonergan, Stephenson, Petterd and Houli) and FA (Chaplin, Knights) etc, etc.

I think they're #1 for the PSD/recycled players.

They did pretty well since their hiatus. Steven Morris is such a great defender, Shaun Grigg was a steal so was Maric.

I thought we did really well out of the Nathan Brown trade but pissed the picks up the wall. 6 + 20 is a good return.

Didn't Brisbane get a pick in the 30's for Aker?
Pretty sure they picked up Chris Schmidt ( ended up
In Adelaide, still plays SANFL)
Mundy for effectively for Koops!
Peter Rohde cheap as chips nearly killed us.

As bad as Peter Rhode was, have we not learned that recruitment and list management if done well or poorly is a club issue and not just a coach issue?

Good clubs have good people and good structures to counter balance the actions of individuals. We haven't had that until seemingly recent times.

Only time will tell if the latter assertion is true, however.

Would have been Rohde's call to bring in Koops, Street, Morgan Bassett( connection at Norwood) . He has to apportion some blame for those disasters.

We traded down our 2nd round pick on Doogs, then used the lower pick on Aker.

That's right. We had an agreement with the Lions to give them a 2nd round pick for Aka then downgraded that pick in the swap for McDougall.

From Wikipedia:

"On day four of the 2006 Trade Week, a deal was struck between the Western Bulldogs and West Coast. The Eagles received the Western Bulldogs' second and fourth round draft picks in exchange for McDougall, and the Eagles owned second and fourth round picks. Before the 2007 season commenced, Western Bulldogs coach Rodney Eade said the additions of new recruits Andrew McDougall and Jason Akermanis would make the team genuine premiership chances over the next three years."

I don't disagree. Just pointing out that a club which lets a Rhode (or any coach for that matter) piss draft picks up against the wall on poor trades isn't managed well.

Scott Bassett actually helped educate a young HD on why defense in footy is so important by deciding to apply none of it to Richo one day at the MCG, so I'll always have time for him.

Which makes it confusing why everyone always blames Rohde for those failed deals.

I mentioned on another thread, that Macca said (on 774 last Saturday) the recruitment manager starts the process, the coaches have some input, but the recruitment manager has the final say otherwise he is not doing his job. This is exactly what Rocket use to say. Not sure how it worked under Rhode and Wallace, but presume the same.

The worst part of that decision was that Ben Hudson was playing under our nose at Werribee and we let Adelaide draft him at pick 58.

Having said that Streety was serviceable and was an important player in 2006.
Minson was on the list and looking liklely but suffered a broken leg in 2006.

The story goes that Luke Darcy during contract negotiations demanding we get another ruck an on the list and was holding off signing until we traded one in . That's why we were so desperate for a ruck man who'd played at AFL level. Geelong knew it and bent us over for Street.

Article on the AFL website just up says Essendon are extremely optimistic about re-signing Bellchambers, but then it also says:

"Obviously Tom Bellchambers is out of contract and I am extremely optimistic that we can get that one done," Dodoro told essendonfc.com.au.

"We are not far away at all in talking with his management."

Perhaps that is taken out of context but if you haven't talked to his management then why would you be extremely confident?. Odd.

Anyway it also talks about Crameri:

List manager Adrian Dodoro said Crameri was mulling over "a monster offer" from
another club.
The Western Bulldogs have tabled a four-year contract worth up to $1.8 million for the Bombers' leading goalkicker.

Crameri is likely to make a decision within the next few weeks.

"Stew Crameri has indicated all the way through that he would prefer to stay with us and we have offered him a three-year deal," Dodoro said.

"We have increased our offer but he does have a monster offer put in front of him from a rival club.

"We need to respect that and he needs to make a decision."

I read that article in the context of after talking to his management they are close to a deal.
