Triple Brisbane premiership defender Justin Leppitsch will become the coach of the Lions, a decision that will be confirmed shortly at a hastily convened club board meeting.

The 227-game triple All-Australian is understood to have confirmed to Richmond his decision to move back to his old club before Brisbane president Angus Johnson ratified the decision with fellow directors.

Leppitsch will take on the senior job solo and won the role ahead of Sydney assistant Leigh Tudor.

He has worked at the Tigers as defensive coach since late 2009, having previously coached as an assistant at the Lions under Leigh Matthews and, briefly, sacked coach Michael Voss.

Johnson's future remained unclear after mediation talks at AFL headquarters early on Tuesday.

Tough gig, all their former first round picks are being sold for picks in the late 20's and 30's.

Buy high, sell low....

Going to be a rough 2-3 years at least for the Lions. Losing Polec, Longer, Yeo, Docherty and Karnezis is a serious blow for them.

One positive for them is there is an abundance of key forward talls in next years draft.
The second positive for their fan base is they've witnessed 3 flags in a row.
Don't feel overly sorry for them to be honest

They had a very good run there for awhile, they were just about unbeatable now the tables have turned they have to sit tight and work through it. The only thing that is going against them is all those supporters that enjoyed the high life have now deserted them in the low times. Fair weather supporters.

Jon Ralph has said that the young Brisbane Lions players couldn't access the gabba for extra skill sessions and would have to sometimes review their game edits alone!

No wonder all the young guys want out.
