Big setback for him. Hope he doesn't lose the benefit of the preseason so far. He'll be playing catchup.

Ah man...

Maybe he can hit the weights?

I'm sure he will. I wonder if he can add some strength to his wiry frame?

His frame is a little similar to Bob's and I'm not sure that Murph struggles too much.
Am pretty disappointed. He's the player I most looked forward to watching attack the 2014 season.

I tend to think his strength isn't too bad. The goal against Melbourne where he was pushing of his opponent where he should have had 5 free kicks in, was a glimpse to me that while his frame isn't going to get massive anytime soon, his strength is serviceable, ala Murphy.

Bad luck for Jared. Look for a late season cameo

I think we've finally stopped trying to turn him into something he's not and will play him to his strengths, which he really doesn't need to put on any weight and it would probably hurt his game more tbh

Shattered. He was our most effective forward last year.

Hopefully its not too much of a set back.

It's a setback for him. Hopefully recovery won't take too long. I still believe he has something to offer us.

Bummer.

Even though it's a setback there is still a chance he'll be right to go by Round 1.

Cruel blow for Grant but hopefully with good rehab he won't miss too much footy and you'd also like to think that a good deal of the fitness base would already have been laid down. Just hope they can find ways for him to retain some fitness.

An article on Gia on the AFL website list Grant as being out for 3 months, that's double the prediction on this thread.

If he's out for 6 weeks, he'll need time for conditioning and the fitness base he loses by not completing the pre-season - perhaps they're assuming that's how long it will be until he's ready for AFL selection?

It's 3 months, not 6 weeks. The article on Grant on the website yesterday

http://www.westernbulldogs.com.au/news/2014-01-21/grant-sidelined

says that he'll need to be in a boot for 6 weeks. :(

“Jarrad underwent surgery yesterday and is expected to remain in a boot for the next six weeks."

That's a big blow for both player and club.

Hopefully he can have a strong second half of the year, but even then, it's a tall ask.

Well if ever we were in need of Higgins to stand up, cue stage left.

:o If we get anything from Higgins at all it'll be a blessing. Almost like getting a new gun recruit if things pan out for him on 2014.

Re: Spindleshanks, terrible result. How often do you hear players copping that injury in that scenario? Very rare. Stiff luck. I think it'll really impact on his season from here in, loses a lot of the fitness and all the hard work he has done over summer amounts to little. That has to be frustrating and eat away at you.

I haven't wanted a player to make good as much as I do Grant.

I thought 6 weeks seemed a little short. :(

We have two threads going so 6 x 2 pretty much equals 3 months.

Glad the mods shut the other two down then... :)
